Severe Arthritis

Recommended Posts

I've been suffering from multiple forms of severe, degenerative, inflammatory arthritis and fibromyalgia for over thirty years. Every joint is affected, along with muscles and tendons. I've had many rare conditions develop from the diseases, requiring surgeries. I've developed rare reactions to many medications. My allergy list is HUGE! As the years progress, my options become limited. Thankfully my doctors approve of my application for Medical Marihuana, and I'm presently waiting for the check to clear and the following 20 days to pass. I'm so sick of narcotics that don't even touch the pain and risk my liver and kidney health.

So I'm asking those who can relate, to share some of their personal experiences on plant strains that help them. What works for nightime pain that keeps sleep at bay. What works for the kind of leg pain that hurts from hip to toe and never subsides. I'm doing almost constant research, but your advice would be much appreciated.

Also, I love this site! Your input and kindness come through loud and clear. I'm so happy I joined.

Thank you,

Anjya

Any indica strain should help. Just try a few until you find the one that works best for you. Look for strains with high cbd content. White Widow is a good strain as is Kush. One of the nice things about using a natural medicine is the infinite variety available. You might want to try topical oils or lotions.

Take a look here for a list of strains and ailments; Granny Storm Crow's Mmj Reference List

And here are some links for topical oil.

I also have some pain issues, but there are so many different strains and they effect people so differently. What may work for one may not for another.

Try to get to some compassion clubs and meet some real humans and try some different strains to see what works best. That's about all you can do.

I can offer some hope, that cannabis has helped me live a better life than it was with pills or without any help for my pain.

I sincerely hope you get the help you need.

Sorry, I forgot to mention tinctures.

Soak 1 gram of dry powdered cannabis in 1 oz. of 90% alcohol (I use Everclear but 151 rum will work in a pinch) for 7 days, shaking the bottle daily. Strain and store in a bottle with a dropper.

Put a dropper full under your tongue and give it a half hour or so to take effect before using any more. After a few times you will be better able to judge how much to use.

I have Lumbosacral arthritis and it works great for me. I find it best to use in the evening because it tends to put me to sleep.

You can use glycerin instead of alcohol but I have not personally tried that.

My doctors are concerned about the smoking aspect, as I've recently gotten a cancer diagnosis and had surgery. So I plan on making tinctures, sugar free candies and baked goods. I figure a muffin with morning coffee, cookie at night with meds, and tincture as needed through the day, sounds like a good program for medicating. If I get real ambitious I may try to make a vaporizer. :thumbsu:

This forum and it's contributers have been a great resource and a bright spot in my day. Thank you all!

Can you kind folks teach me more about these tinctures? How do they compare to smoking as far as pain relief? I know an individual human being who is having a very hard time walking right now because of a bad arthritis. I would like to be able to pass along this helpful information, so please send me the knowledge I seek if you would be so kind.

Thanks to all of you that show compassion to someone today...

Can you kind folks teach me more about these tinctures?

Tincture is designed to address the problems of rapid medicine delivery and consistent dosing. Most tinctures are made to be used under the tongue or sublingually. English pharmaceutical companies are presently working on a cannabis extract “spray” that can be used under the tongue in a similar fashion. These sprays are not expected to be approved for use in the United States for years and will be very expensive. Absorption by the arterial blood supply under the tongue is completed in seconds. One trick is to not swallow the dose as, if swallowed, absorption will be in the GI tract. Many patients, though, add their tincture to a cup of tea or cranberry juice for easy delivery. When tincture is used in a beverage, absorption will be slower than if absorbed under the tongue. While tincture absorbed in an empty stomach is accomplished in minutes, conversion in the liver remains, as does the difficulty in titrating dose. Usually, a tincture dose is delivered by means of a medicine dropper or a teaspoon. A rule of thumb on dose is that patients receive benefit from 3-4 drops to a couple of full droppers depending upon the potency of the tincture and the patient’s own unique requirements among other factors.

Thanks Wild Bill, this is a lot of help all you guys. I was just going to PM you Wild Bill and BoroBoro because I have read your posts before on this subject. So, is it possible that a very severe flare up of arthritis can be suppressed with a dose taken this way, or was that just a coincidence? Thanks again for helping some of us other individual human beings here...

The effect from tincture is not as long lasting as medibles but has a more rapid onset. It also seems easier to control since you can vary the dosage from a few drops to several tablespoons. There is a learning curve but once you are used to it you can pretty much tell how much you will need to help with your problem.

The guy in the video said it lasted up to 4 hours. I think that estimate may be high? But, can anyone tell me, is there good evidence to support the connection between using tinctures and suppressing or stopping a severe arthritic flare up, is it that good for some individual humans? Or, is it coincidence, mind over matter, or what? Thanks WB!

I think that I'm you thirty years ago. There are days I cant walk more than 5 minutes without painful fuzzy feelings in my ancles and knees that prevent me from doing things I was able to do just a year ago (I can't even walk with all of my weight on bad days). All of my joints get painful if I do any activity, even things which people would consider routine like cleaning or doing the dishes. I take over 10 advil a day (doesn't help joint pain but helps the stabilizer tendon/muscle pains that are strained from the arthritis), and smoke herb at night, which helps, but not enough. Pains started in my neck, and it's in pain every day all day, some days are worse though... I just got the obama care thing, which people are naive to think is free, it is over 250 a month for me, I have deductibles, and I have co pays, It's the only type of insurance that I can have because I was born with a heart condition where I have had to have 3 major surgeries and two angioplasties, insurance companies won't cover someone like me. Actually I have been to the doctor over 5 times out of pocket, and he wont run any x-rays on me or MRI even though I have red dots forming on all of my joints, and they are all swallen, and hot. He says since I don't have insurance he wont do it and a specialist won't see me. Luckily I will have real insurance on the first of the month and will demand treatment. I really don't see how I'm going to work as I can hardly walk I need to figure out all of this disability stuff.

Honestly the weed helps me more in the mental ability to get through the pain, and stay as happy as possible. I consider myself lucky, there are people far worse off than me. This is all new to me, I am having a hard time not being able to be the bread winner, and have had some pretty bad depression which the pot helps with.

Strains which have helped me are Northern lights, Blue moonshine, C99 helps me with depression and helps me focus on something other than pain. I'll let you know how my current strains effect me.

Sry just noticed that this thread was written a while ago, Hope things are ok...

I have real bad rhumatoid most of my life like you, and what might be the onset of fibromyalgia, (as well as COPD and PTSD). I have found the purple strains to be the most effective for reducing my inflammation. Pretty much everything gets me high; but only a handfull of strains I've tried are real effective for the rhumatoid.

I can't help you on the sleep problem as I can't relate.

I sure hope you find some relief with the program - it has been a Godsend for me.

My Doctor is very pleased with my progress after almost two years of growing my own and having a steady supply of MM.

And anyone who knew me before the program can absolutely state it has helped me because it is that obvious.

Good Luck.

This is all really great information.

I myself suffer from RA among a bunch of other stuff.

One thing that that I notice on how it helps me is using a "sativia" strain during the day and it get's me moving.

- walking the dog, getting out of the house, etc.

In turn the moving around is good for me :)

I just added a post in another forum asking questions about the tincture - and it's all right here!

Yep I know moving aorund when the pain is less is supposed to help. If I want to do something and I have it around I will smoke some U.K. Cheese or Train Wreck to get an up type high after I smoke the purple to kill inflammation. But I have to be careful because I have both flavors of COPD; so hard work for an extended period is a thing of the past for me.

Sometimes it works better than other days; but it is very rare for me to have NO pain at all; MM does help me cope with it though. Not sure if it works for the PTSD foe me or not; I'm still a nutcase.

Yeah it helps me with PTSD symptoms... Honestly I haven't had a true flash back in a while but the anxiety and lack of sleep is helped with MM.

I really hope that they do not take this law away from us, I feel true relief after I smoke and the people around me appreciate that as much as I do.

PTSD should be on the list of MMJ aliments and WE CAN NOT FORGET THE LAW IS NOT THIERS TO TAKE< ITS OUR TO KEEP. We voted this in, not them. Its one of the few political actions that benefits us so we must keep it.

sorry for the old thread necro here but this subject is near and dear to me...

I'd also like to advocate for vegetable oils (olive, canola etc..) or apple cider vinegar as the solvent base for making a tincture since mixing alcohol and narcotics can be devastating for the body; especially the liver.
