Im so paranoid about getting spider mites i just ordered some ladybugs as a preventive measure anyone have success with these red girls and i have heard to leave a dish of water for them to drink out of is this true? Thx for the input, current strains BOG Lifesaver, Pineapple Crush, and Afghan Kush under 1000w HPS FFOF soil grow

Living in MI, I have seen crazy explosion of ladybugs in houses. Thousands of them crawling everywhere. That would not be my first choice in pest control.

Hot Shot pest strips for spider mites some say it works. You can get them at Home Depot about 7 bucks.

Yeah i know about mite rid but i was thinking of a more organic rout you could be right though it is a closet grow but even still the red girls are harmless and i heard they can be vacuumed right up no problemo and the ladybugs cost about 30 bucks w overnight delivery home depot

Those are not Lady Bug swarms they are asian bettles swarms.

They are a waste of money. All they do is try to fly into your lighting system and end up killing themselves and eating nothing, as they are usually sold when they are in reproduction mode (right out of hibernation). They try to use your H.I.D. lighting as orientation for their migrations. They use the sun to orient themselves to migrate and then reproduce. It is their larvae that are better at eating mites. So you have to somehow get them as they are about to lay eggs. They only stick around in outdoor gardens for a short period, but can establish themselves annually. Indoors they are basically useless.

I have wasted so much money just to vacuum up thousands of dead bugs within less than a week. Learned my lesson years ago.

Try to find the predators called spider mite destroyers if you must have a natural predator. They are harder to find and a little more expensive, but are ravenous for spider mites, and are much easier to keep alive than predator mites. The problem with any of your natural predators is you have to have spider mites to feed them in the first place, or they will just die or cannibalize each other. Natural predators are meant to set up a food chain and keep each other in balance.

Your best preventative is to use an organic product like AzaMax bi-weekly and practice cleanliness until they do come, which they will, eventually. There is no getting around them. We are in Michigan, and you can't even walk outside without them clinging to your clothes, dog, or cat in the sping through the fall. They are everywhere, in all the home improvement stores, Walmarts, anywhere that sells live plants. They get caught up in wind currents and cling to the first thing they come into contact with. They will also come in through your ventilation unless you pre-filter the air.

They do very well i swear by them as long as your not licking them like a sucker you will be fine coming up on my 2nd year using them will zero ill effects .

As soon as you get the ladybugs spray them with sugar water. This will coat their wings so they don't fly directly into the light. LOL

That does help for a few days. Then they just taste like sweet chicken. LOL!

they wont work for what you want. If you dont have mites.... they wont stick around, they are freakin killing machines....you dont have prey they dont hang out.

send me 30 bucks ill send you all the lady bugs you need, I cant get rid of the lil suckers, i got the red ones and the green ones, they are even in my camper, its fricking winter dont they die or hibernate?

I've seen that although no food inside and they leave or die. Use them as preventative maintenance out side during the warm season, good for your garden and flowers as well thats where they start any how.

 

 

Remember lady bugs are red not orange in color.

I use them but have not had any bad bug problems in a while. I have my lights in hoods so they just ounce off them. I also am all organic and have a worm farm so there are other small bugs in the soil and farm I would think they can eat. They last a while so i assume they are eating to stay alive. Some do find the cold corners of the room and try to hibernate.

I bought a bag of ladybugs at a local hydro supply shop, there was like 1000 for 5 bucks I think..

I couldn't tell you if they worked or not cause I didn't have bug problems... didn't see what it would hurt to use them though?

 

I kept them in a mesh bag with cotton balls in it, stored them in a small fridge, when I saw that the ones I put in the GR were dead I would clean them out, then take some more outta the fridge put some sugar water on the cotton balls in the bag and the lil suckers just go nuts again.. drop a few in the room kept repeating that process..

Anyone tried a venus fly trap? or some other carnivorous plant?

They enjoy eating other bugs and insects, love hot bright lights, and are pretty easy to grow!

 

Only drawback is that if you do not already have bugs in your room then it will starve to death unless you feed it.

 

Not sure how good it would work on mites but it might work to help control some ladybugs...
