First Time Harvesting

Recommended Posts

check the trics, they sell a cheap microscope at radio shack or use a jewelers loop.I hang entire plant for 3 days then clip fan leafs and leave hang for 5 more days, then cut buds and trim sugar leafs for hash and into a paper bag or shoe box for 1 week then usually dry enough for jars.Burp your jars every day for at least 2 weeks and I usually flip from one jar to another so what was on bottom goes to top during this period daily.Good luck :sword:

I usually do my trimming when I cut the plants down, just easier for me, IMHO. Either way works fine, just a matter of preference. I hang the trimmed branches in a small space (I use a metal locker). It is a good idea to have a small fan in the space, not blowing directly on the buddage, simply have it blow the air around the room. I think it's important to do a slow dry and cure, this enhances the flavors greatly. I hang in the closet for 10 - 14 days (this is dependant on the relative humidity). When a medium sized stem snaps when you bend it, then the buds are ready to go into a paper bag for a day. Next into jars for final cure. I open the jars a couple of times a day during the first week, then gradually reduce the number of times I open the jar over the next couple of weeks, until finally I only open them about once a week. Properly cured meds are much better than quick dried and no cure, that's fer shur....

The slow dry gives the chlorophyll a better chance to break down, helping to get rid of the hay smell and taste. The slow cure is similar to what they do with tobacco, it sweats the moisture out of the bud and leaves you with an even moisture throughout the buds.

Now, I know from personal experience that one has a tendency to want to get right to smoking, but you'll discover that taking your time at the end of this wonderful process of growing your own meds, is well worth the wait. "I'll smoke no bud before it's time" is a great motto, if you can be patient. Enjoy your first crop, you are a newbie to this only once so have a great time.

Peace...j.b.
