Hello I have a general yield question for the forum today. I work with a few who have personally done better than a gpw (gram per watt)

but they were using 1000s or outdoor gardening. So my question is, has anyone personally achieved a gpw using 600s or even better 400s? What kind of set up would be required? I understand the basic needs of a full canopy, supplemental co2, high yielding strain. But just needed to know if the gpw theory is light specific or not.

thanks

Yields are genetics, lights, and environment. BTW, how many watts for outside? LoL I run a 600W and usually get 2.5 oz.....but seriously, most look for effect in medical marijuana, rather than yields like commercial growers would.....as always.....YMMV.......shredder

"1000s OR outdoor gardening". just gotta read a little closer haha. Either way that doesnt answer my question. you said you get 2.5 off of 600 watt. that must be per plant im guessing. i also didnt ask what commercial growers do vs "quality" growers. I am asking is a gpw still achievable regardless of the wattage, i.e. 400 g 400 watts 1000g 1000watts 150 g 150 watts

There are too many factors. I can easily get more than a gpw if I veg for 4 months. Regardless of the wattage. The gpw is an average if you are doing things right. But if you stick a 1 week vegged plant under 10,000 watts and don't feed it right, you are NOT going to get 10,000 grams. Just like if you stick 60 plants under 1000w and feed them perfectly you might not get 1000g because of overcrowding.

Just because you have watts does not mean you will get yield. And each plant will have a max it can do.

So, a gpw is what a experienced expert grower should get if they have it all dialed in and growing right and they know what they are doing. The calculation is gpw because yes it does scale to whatever wattage you are growing under, but remember, a 150w light may not have enough lumens for even 1 plant. The gpw is for when everything is done right.

Notice I said expert grower, not master grower, Since I know it is possible to get more than a gram per watt, I would definitely put those who can do that consistently as masters.

GPW is not based on a per plant scenario. You could easily turn a gpw with a 400w lamp but the trick is to have more smaller plants, a 400w will not penetrate a canopy like a 1000w will. Assuming you have a 12 plant count, if you want to turn good yield, put your 400w lamp in a 4x4 tent, veg your plants til they're 12" tall, and flip to flower, if you're heat/humidity stay under control and you feed them well you can easily turn 1.25oz's a plant and that would clear the 1gpw mark.
