Depression

It would be great if we could get this on the list of qualifying conditions. For reasons I will not get into I too have battled with this all of my life. I have tried and even when I was a kid forced to try almost every anti-depressant, and anti-psychotic on the market. Not one of them worked anywhere near as well as Cannabis does. This may not be true for everyone, but it was for me.

One of those medications, Geodon (Ziprasidone) almost killed me one day. But I won't get into that either.

Psychiatrists will cram that crap down your throat claiming it will help you. It never did anything for me but make things worse. With the exception of one medication: Lexapro which did help somewhat but had some unpleasant side effects.

The only side effects I receive from my meds now are: Short-term memory loss, increased appetite, heightened sense of well-being (euphoria), dry mouth, and dry eyes.

Not too shabby compaired to:

Lexapro:

Constipation; decreased sexual desire or ability; diarrhea; dizziness; drowsiness; dry mouth; headache; increased sweating; light-headedness when you stand or sit up; loss of appetite; nausea; stomach upset; tiredness; trouble sleeping.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur when using Lexapro:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); bizarre behavior; black or bloody stools; chest pain; confusion; decreased concentration; decreased coordination; fainting; fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat; hallucinations; memory loss; menstrual period changes; new or worsening agitation, panic attacks, aggressiveness, impulsiveness, irritability, hostility, exaggerated feeling of well-being, restlessness, or inability to sit still; persistent or severe ringing in the ears;persistent, painful erection; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; seizures; severe dizziness; severe or persistent anxiety or trouble sleeping; severe or persistent headache; shortness of breath; stomach pain; suicidal thoughts or attempts; tremor; unusual bruising or bleeding; unusual or severe mental or mood changes; unusual weakness; vision changes; worsening of depression.

Cannabis wins that battle. Today I am cured of depression. I have a few nagging symptoms, but you would never know how hard of a time I had with it if you had met me today.

:thumbsu:

It does not take a statistician to interpret those results.

I too have fought that battle Darkmatter.

Three unsuccessful suicide attempts. Looking back I didn't want to die. I just didn't know how to not be depressed.

Now I smoke nearly all Sativa's and am quite happy.

My 17 year old son?

He's like me.:-(

I wish I could give him a sack without being labeled a child abuser.

Couple of months ago he wrote a suicide note took a bunch of xanax( luckily not enough) and tried unsuccessfully to stop the mental torments.

I found a gram bag with some weed in it about 2 weeks after the incident.

I came Unglued. H said that the pot saved his life, because after he smoked it he didn't want to die anymore and made himself vomit the remainder of the xanax.

Now what do you say to your son.?

I know what he's going through and cannabis did help me.

How can I deny him something beneficial? He's been on almost every depression / adhd drug known and says pot hells him the most.

You can't. He is going to use it. Especially if he found that it helped him. I was a medical user years before the law passed. I found it's medical benefits through my recreational use. Then I did reading on it, and found I was not alone. Not even close. Years later we have Medical Marihuana here.

My card is for my neck injury, but I would say, in my case, it helps my depression just as much as my physical pain.

I found a gram bag with some weed in it about 2 weeks after the incident.

I know it sounds like a goofy question, but was it quality Cannabis? Or Ruderalis street-garbage?

The Medical benefits of "Ditch Weed" for Depression were almost nil in my case. It has got to be of the highest quality to be Medical. Perhaps he can be educated in safe Cannabis use, and in the dangers of hard drugs, and perhaps when he turns 18 find some way to get a card.

Young Adults (especially one's with emotional issues) are like fish sometimes. The harder you squeeze them, the more they can slip from your grasp.

Depression and Anxiety conditions definitely need to be on the treatable list.

I'm not surprised to hear stories of people getting through suicidal episodes after using cannabis.

I totally believe that the plant is capable of healing the spirit.

Medicating helps people think more introspectively, and with greater perspective.

It relaxes and elevates the mood which creates a mental "safe place" for coping and problem solving.

Over the long term cannabis helps people accept their own true nature, which leads to renewed self worth and a happier life.

Well said my friend

True life has taught me cannabis' worth. Not laws or doctors.

Hi,

Smoking is not the way to get out from the depression you can make yourself busy in things you like the most.

Please, elaborate if you would on why you believe Cannabis is in-effective for treatment for depression. It has helped me immensely ,and is on the listed medical uses in other countries.

You are 100% correct in the fact that you have to stay busy and do the things you enjoy most. Medication alone will never cure Depression. It only gets you halfway there.

Hi,

There is SO much more to fighting depression than keeping busy and thinking happy thoughts. When you are in a deep depression, there are no "things" that you like the most. You don't feel anything. You can't get out of bed to "make yourself busy". There is having a down period, which we all have from time to time and then there is true, clinical depression which shuts down and severely affects every aspect of your life as well as everyone around you. It's a terrible disease. I, myself have never experienced it (thank God!) but, I have been married to a wonderfull man (for 13 years) who has been fighting severe depression for most of his life. He has been in and out of therapy for years and he has been playing "Pharmaceutical Russian rulette" for as long as I have known him. He is essentially a shut-in, he has no friends or social life, and he gets almost no enjoyment out of life what so ever. Trust me, it's not something you just get over and it's definitely not a life anyone would choose to live.

At this point he is just not comfortable trying mmj, but I am working on him. I agree, smoking may not be the answer but maybe tincture or medibles. Depression is a physical chemical imbalance, not that you don't have the right outlook on things.

I wasn't trying to be a jerk or start something, but when I see or hear statements like cisdeepa made, it really bothers me that people think this is all it takes to fight depression. YES, you need to work on the cognitive behavioral side of it, but you can't make any progress there until you manage the chemical imbalance first. Otherwise, the person suffering from depression ends up fighting a loosing battle only to become discouraged and fall further into that black hole of depression.

This misconception about people who suffer from severe depression needs to change. People need to understand that depression is a serious and potentially deadly disease.

Well said Anish,

I have found an alliance that works for me.

Cannabis Sativa as needed for mood elevation. "Omega-3 Mood"( brand name) for chemical imbalance in the gelatinous material we call brains.

It works for me. See if he will try it for 30 days. It might help him, it doesn't change your moods. It helps you change your moods.
