Who is Dr. Bearman?

 

 

 

Dr. Bearman has worked at every level of government including the Regional Office of The US Public Health Service; is founder,administrator,medical director, and lead physician at Isla Vista Neighborhood Clinic,Director of Health Services at SDSU, Director of and Health Officer for the Sutter County Health Department and Medical Director/Director of the oldest Medicaid managed care program in the country. He has over 40 years experience providing drug abuse treatment and prevention and in that capacity was a one of the founders of the third free clinic in the country(Seattle Open Door Clinic),he was director of the Haight Ashbury Drug Treatment Program and was medical director of the Santa Barbara County Methadone Maintenance Program and of the Ventura County Inpatient Heroin Detoxification Program. He received a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson to develope a plan for dual diagnosis intervention. He was a consultant to the Santa Barbara County Schools on a drug abuse prevention and intervention program which emphasized personal responsibility, self esteem and developing decision making skills.

Dr. Bearman has been active in the clinical practice of cannabinoid medicine for 12 years, he is one of the founders and a vice president of the American Academy of Cannabinoid Medicine, He has a regular column on the American Alliance of Cannabis Medicine website,his articles have appeared in O' Shaunnessy's, Cannabis Times, and the West Coast Leaf, he is featured in the documentaries "What if Cannabis Cured Cancer" and "Medicinal Cannabis and Your Health",he has testified as an expert witness in over 400 criminal and civil cases involving psychoactive drugs, he was awarded the coveted Peter McWilliams Memorial Award by NORML, He is a board member of ASA and an Advisory Board Member of Patients Out of Time, he has delivered hundreds of professional presentations on social drugs including many on cannabis, the Santa Barabara County Medical Society presented him a humanitarian award, and he was recognized by the Wall Street Journal Health Blog as their "Doctor of the Day " He is author of"Demons, Discrimination and Dollars: A Brief History of the origins of American Drug Policy." He is one of the most knowledgeable physicians on the clinical use of cannabis.
