Does Anyone Have Experience Using Promix

Getting ready to switch soil Saturday, never used pro mix before but I've read nothing but good about it!

 

Seems to be MJ compatible as it comes out of the container at the perfect pH. Which is fine by me cause I'm tired of fighting soils to get the pH into range.

 

Just wondering if I should use it as it is or is it okay to ammend it with fertilizer? I've read that some recommend you add dolomite lime because as it breaks down it becomes even more acidic. Just don't want to overdo it with too many nutes and other stuff and end up having problems again.

 

If anybody has any other tips as well I'm all ears, Thanks!

Promix requires additives to sustain cannabis growth as far as I know nutes perlite etc but most who grow with it  grow very well .

Nothing but. Feeding is necessary. You can use nutes from a grow store, from your local garden center, or from any reliable source.

I use promix straight out of the bag and add my nutes when needed. You can ammend it with fertilizer if you want. I dont add dolomite lime, but Im usually finished with it after 90 days or so. Keep it around 6-6.5 pH and you should be ok.

Sunshine mix 4 is better. But you dont need to do anything to it. Depending on nutes and strenght maybe flush once halfway though.

i'd go fully organic myself, if i were buying premium dirt.

strange...ive had them but i dont think they were from the soil mix. Ive used sunshine mix 4 for years now and only had them twice. The two are pretty much the same, sunshine has a little bit more perlite aside from that im not sure. Maybe im just crazy, ive like my results more from sunshine mix than promix.

And im not alone.i did have a little more diffuclty with ph using promix as opposed to sunshine mix but to be honest...ive been thinking about it alot lately, one of my very first grows and one of my best as far as quality was using a straight vermiculite and perlite mix and i didnt know jack poop about growing then.

Pro-mix HD has more perlite.

 

Been using Pro-mix with the KISS system for over 12 years now without a problem.

Cell, thanks for that recipe, I think I might have to give that a try. I was planning on mixing in the dolomite lime, perlite, and some Jobes all organic. I love that stuff!

Stay away from Jobe's.  It's not that good. It doesn't provide everything the plant needs.  

 

No you don't have to add anything else and you never have to flush.

When using promix ... get it nice and wet about 4 or 5 days before you.re ready to use it. The microbs get active and helps speed up rooting. Straight promix is what I use for cloning and I have 100% success.

Great advise, you beat me to it!  I wet mine down about a week before putting the plant in it, and I dont add any nutes for upto a month.  with my experience on promix I like how you can flush it and it drains real well, it is easy to maintain ph and ppms.

I like to spread it around.  It's the best system I've seen in 20+ years.  The best thing about it is that it's fool-proof.  Anyone can get a good harvest the first time.  It makes it all pretty easy and you avoid all the problems that most people have in the beginning.  After you understand it, you can alter it and play around with other nutes to dial into specific strains.  The smokes tastes really good too!  

 

....and you can get everything you want at the same place your grandparents get the supplies for their vegetable garden, so it's a lot cheaper.  It costs about 1/3 of what Fox Farm costs for instance.

Its exactly what im looking for cheap and easy.  it leaves a lil room for a few other things I need, Im redoing my room,,,To tell ya the truth My last issue was mites,,I dont like to try and control them, lol.....I dont want them,  other than having a healthy plant, plus all the other options which are many azamax dr.doom, ect,  ets here you version of pest control if you dont mind!

Another question, once I mix it all together will it need okay for cuttings and seedlings? It won't be too hot will it?

 

Or should I just use straight pro mix for those?

Sorry, one more question. I assume you water with distilled or RO water, do you add anything to it like cal mag, besides ph ing it?

I use straight Pro-mix for cuttings, no nutes.  Although I do fill the cup half way with nutrient rich Pro-mix then fill it the rest of the way with plain Pro-mix.  That way when the roots do make it down to the bottom they have something to feed on.

 

I use tap water.  I let it sit a few days before using it and always maintain a Ph around 6.8-7.0.  I have to use Ph Down as the water where I'm at is very base.  The bedrock is full of calcite and dolomite.
