Nute Ppm And Additives Question

When mixing my standard nute solution it runs around 1000ppm(for flower). When adding things like a bud booster, Botanicare Sweet and SM-90 it jumps to about 1500ppm. My question is, do I count the ppm from the additives and the nutes together or just the nute ppm? If the additives give me 500ppm do I subtract that and only use 500ppm nutes to total 1000? I'm so high I'm not sure I understand my own question, I hope you can decipher what I'm talking about.

If the additives give me 500ppm do I subtract that and only use 500ppm nutes to total 1000? No, if you cut your base nutes you may not be giving the plant everything it needs, but it may work.

If you have more than 350 ppm in your water, odds are you need to go ro.   I say 'odds are' cuz it depends on what the 350 consists of.   If you add 700 ppm flowering nutes, and the plant suffers, you do need ro.

In soil or hydro you can find out about your water's maake-up by watering healthy plants for a week with water only.

At the end of the week, how do they look?

In soil, the best use of a ppm meter is to check run-off.

Nute mnfr's directions can easily result in hi, hi ppm in run-off, and besides being expensive, it slows plants down.  The flounder + drift at EC above 1.3

EC is a better measure of how hot soil has become, and contolling ec is much more important than ppm.  EC is a broader, more informative measure of water + nute's combined osmotic pressures.

Sorry not to mention that it's a hydro grow(DWC) and yes pic book you are almost spot on. I used tap water that was around 340ppm for almost my entire grow. I just switched to RO about a week ago. Things were going great in flower till about week 3 1/2 and I am now in week 4 1/2 with veeeery little change in growth, almost none. Even using RO water with 3/4 strength nutes, ppm is around 1000. Should I flush with just RO water for a week and back off the nutes to 1/2 strength?

i would flush with ro alone until stress appears

I agree and that is easy enough to do with dwc or something like promix

What I have found is you realy cant follow the nute recipee, it makes the solution have to much of everything, you could get nute lock, among other things, back off on your amount of nutes, only start with about 1/3 of the nutes called for, and add or subtract from there, dont use the nutes at full strength! Ive had nothing but problems when ive used gh nutes at their recomended dose, cut the nutes down and see how you do, I wouldnt worry to much about a lil stop in progress, they could have been shocked a lil bit when you switched your water to r.o or added more nutes!  trial and error, and Ive found dwc was actualy to hard for me to do, Im not saying it isnt an awsome way to grow, it just takes a lot more attn and work untill you lock in your ultimate ciricular, there are many who grow dwc in here, I hope they add there two cents because they most def no more than me about it,  I quit dwc and went to dirt!

Best of luck!

Stessed? My best one(was the best one) has yellowing wilting leaves. If I take anything else away I'm not sure what it will do. As it stands the plant is drinking noting. Haven't had to add water in a week. The leaves are falling off in droves. I would actually be upset but I never intended it to work anyway. Just kinda sucks because I'm so far into flower and they "were" looking sweet.

*chalks off yet another failure

I'm thinking more about the dirt idea every day man. I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed but this hydro thingy has turned me into a lab tech and mathematician. It literally makes my head hurt.

Lmfao, yea thats how I felt, I took a gallon of water and mixed each nute in it (in its own gallon of water) to see what it added to ppm and ph

I did everything, and I came to the same conclusion, I dont want to be a mathematician, scientest. botonist to grow quality mm lol!

I few people are talking about a grow medium called the kiss method, you can get everything you need from where you dad or grandpa got all of his stuff for his out door garden, so in all it is cheaper and from what I hear just plain easy to get med grade mm, of course you need the right seeds or clones to be mm grade, a few on here use the kiss method, it sounds right up my alley and im gonnna give it a shot, im not gonna buy any more promix till I mix up the kiss method and give that a try next time around, Ive taken the summer off, and Im pretty much planning on only growing in the fall and winter, and hopefully I can get 3 crops with the last one finishing up some time early to mid summer, than im gonna scrub all of my gr and start over in the fall!  that is just my next plan, im only a c.g to my lady, plus I have a c.g who is always there for me!

I will most likely be looking into this method you speak of.

Check out Lucas formula if you havent already, very easy and it works great.

This is a realy good thread, and Im hoping all will share what they find to be best for them, that way those of us who have had issues with our medium or nutes can read up on other options, thanks dio!

Yeah my DWC did that last year, start of summer... water got too hot, a lot less oxygen in hot water.... didnt/still don't have the cash for a hydro chiller...

I used one litre frozen water bottles to cool it down during lights on...

Didn't work that good -

Went back to dirt..

Haven't had an issue in about a year..lol

Thanks,

pretty much the same thing that happened to me lol!  but I dont want any one to get the opinion that dwc is not a great way to grow, the people that have it locked in, are doing amazing, so it is just a matter of having the right equip and so on, I know guys who grow the best mm ive ever had the pleasure to use, that was grown in dwc, it is just a lil to difficult for me to get past the learning curve, lmao!

Okay, so I'm flushing with straight up Ph'ed(5.8) RO, just started yesterday. Now I'm waiting for stress to appear. I'm not sure what to look for since the leaves were already turning yellow, drooping, leaves falling off, stems are like old rubbery stalks of celery, etc. Is there something else I need to be looking for? With all this going on the buds still look yummy though-LOL
