cannabisicon.gif USA -- Marijuana use appears to be a partisan affair according to a new Gallup poll, which finds that liberals and Democrats are more prone to use it than conservatives and Republicans.

Almost half of liberals - 49 percent - report they have tried marijuana, compared to 40 percent of moderates and 32 percent of conservatives. Among all Americans, the rate is 38 percent who’ve tried it.

“Liberals (13 percent) have one of the highest rates of self-reported current usage of marijuana, exceeding both moderates (8 percent) and conservatives (2 percent),” Gallup reports.

The only higher percentage of current use is among the young and restless, are 18-29.

Among the numbers:

38 percent of Americans say they have “tried” marijuana.

65 percent of cigarette smokers and 32 percent of non-smokers say they have tried it.

47 percent of men and 30 percent of women also say they have tried marijuana.

31 percent of Republicans, 32 percent of conservatives, 41 percent of Democrats and 49 percent of liberals also say they have tried marijuana.

7 percent of Americans overall say they currently smoke marijuana.

10 percent of cigarette smokers and 6 percent of non-smokers currently smoke marijuana.

8 percent of men and 6 percent of women also say they currently use marijuana.

1 percent of Republicans, 2 percent of conservatives, 9 percent of Democrats and 13 percent of liberals also say they have tried marijuana.

SO... They polled 1 out of (approximately) 154876.1489886532 residents (if my math is correct) of the USA ?

Seems a 'solid' cross section of the population... not.

Media polls, or for that matter many polls, and studies are, at best, lame. Questions are often put in a framework intended to sell copy or limit conclusions. For instance, it is pretty simple to determine what candidate a pollster is calling for around election time. After few seemingly honest questions they become a demonstration in logical fallacy. It's been said that statistics don't lie, but liars use statistics. It is not that I entirely dispute the numbers, but find most polls suspect. This is no reflection on you GB, but rather the piece itself.
