Weed - By Dr Sanjay Gupta

this is an amazing story so far..

I hope everyone get's a chance to watch it.

it is the story behind why Dr Gupta changed his views about Medical Cannabis.

I sincerely hope the judges of the COA are watching.. and all our law makers for that matter.

this is important information and people need to see how cannabis therapy can save lives... not necessarily just treat symptoms

Charlotte's story was a good one.  Overall, I must've had expectations that were too high because I was a little disappointed in the program.

I guess I was hoping that he better explained the problems with waiting on FDA approval.  I was hoping he would highlight the ridiculous DEA scheduling situation.  And, like he said in his article promoting the show, I was hoping he would talk more about how the country has been misled about cannabis for over 75 years.

Wasn't really anything new in the documentary for the cannabis community but hopefully he got some points across to the general public.  His opinions carry weight and CNN has pretty broad exposure.  It will help the cause, but I guess I was just hoping for more.

thats the news for you now. faster, dumber, less numbers and facts, more opinion and funny videos.

i mean, did you want a boring marijuana program with a lot of time spent on boring old laws

and the boring history of the boring racist laws?

or did you want something with a lot of soundbytes, high reactions and emotions and miracle cures?

(note: i havent seen it yet)

These statements are huge:  that under US govmt auspices some weed confiscated has tested 36% thc at the University of Miss.; and, the CO cannabis breeding brothers shown on the show have acccomplished a strain testing 24% cbd with only 1% thc. The strain is Charlotte's Web #3.

Who's got clones?

Some of that is what I would consider speculative just as these GC/MS "scientific testing " methods are making inroads into OUR product line. They are true Capitalists.

They are using these tests for manipulating various parts of this Public Debate / Drug Trial that we are all participating in.

I'm currently 'testing a ' high CBD strain myself only because I know the breeder, got a deal, didn't even try it. Pushed it in to the back of the bin. But Lordy, lordy old Mother Hubbards bin was in a terrible fix so I reluctantly give it a try. Been on it for a month or so. Lots of potential, specially for the " lightweight " users or ....detox from hi thc, alcohol, etc...  gonna try to save a gram for testing anyway. Only about threee left by this morns inventory check.

  • 2 weeks later...

Matt and Paige Figgy...

the story of their daughter Charlotte at 5 years old.

in Colorado

the first Medical Cannabis Child case in CO.

they Are talking about CBD and it's role in inhibiting seizures.

BOYCOTT CHARLOTTES WEB STRAIN!!

I am an MMJ Grower, Business owner & Consultant in Colorado. I can tell you personally you will not be seeing any clones of Charlottes Web anytime soon.

The breeders responsible for the strain (The Stanley Brothers) are treating this strain as if it where the holy grail, and THEY WILL NOT SHARE THE GENETIC WITH THE REST OF THE WORLD - NOT EVEN SICK PEOPLE.

If you want Charlottes Web (as dried flowers or oil) you must purchase these items directly from the stanley brother's business (The Indispensary located in Colorado Springs).

EXCUSE ME, BUT THIS IS TOTAL moo poo. If you have a strain that can help REALLY HELP sick people then that strain should be shared with everyone. PERIOD. To use CNN as basically a commercial for your retail shop is APPALLING and goes against everything that the true MMJ community stands for.

Yes, they allow Charllotes parents to pay whatever they can afford for the oil but it does not change the fact that if her parents wanted to plant it in they're back yard they would be out of luck.

THERE ARE MANY, MANY, MANY OTHER GOOD HIGH CBD STRAINS FREELY AVAILIBLE.

- Even though I'm out in Colorado I still make myself available to all who need assistance, If you have further questions related to other high cdb options you can call me anytime - 720-324-1507, My name is Thomas Mathieson.

let me just say welcome to the forums..

its great to see you here.

my only problem with your position is that it is rightfully theirs to do with as they see fit. this is America after all and patents and exclusivity are a definite thing in the good ole USA... particularly in the medical field

I can say in my own world as a compassionate person I would give the strain to anyone and everyone who would benefit from it medically... However I can't fault the brothers for running their business based on the most basic of American corporate model principles.

the option left on the table is to hunt for a better strain with stronger effects..

then once you complete all the efforts to isolate the cannabis profile that works best for you then you get to do with it as you please... such as release it to the community as a plant.. or not.

America, (sigh).

Thank you for the welcome =)

I agree with everything you say. But keep in mind the growing community has a dynamic that cannot be controlled, at least in the common "i own the rights to that" sense.

If the Stanley brothers won't release the strain then people will make they're own. Simple.

You can't apply this logic to things like iPads, Computers, Televisions, Houses or basically any other tangible items which you my center a business around.

If someone or some group is growing your strain it's not because they didn't have other choices, It is a privilege and an honor to take you're place amongst the ranks of people like Ghost, Arijan, OG Raskal, Ed Rosenthal, Jorge Cervantes ect.... We would never have known how good Ghost OG is if he hadn't shared it (and he originally paid 10k for his cut, after which he shared and encouraged everybody to share the genetic great story btw).

IMHO The Stanley Brothers are shooting themselves in the foot. They don't really have anything that someone couldn't re-create. Which is why shortly after I posted my original message I got on a couple local Colorado grow forums and Craigslist calling for a high cbd open source community breeding project. Coordinated community breeding can accelerate the development process especially if we start with an already high CBD strain such as Omrita RX.

So allas, this is what happens in the weed world when you try to be corporate. It just doesn't work.

Thank god =)

agreed.

on every sense.

I will add a prayer for those working within your circle that they may find the most amazing plant with all the benefits that they need.

it is true..  if the American corp greed strategy is used with cannabis... we will end up with nothing more than pharmaceutical grade cannabis controlled and locked up by those who would try to profit from it..

I agree that the brothers have now cast a negative shadow upon themselves and will probably regret the decision to restrict the genetics of charlottes web.

I agree with what you have said. As someone who has Cannatonic 1 and 4 I am fine with the idea of helping others, but I think if someone develops a piece of intellectual property then they have the right to do as they see fit. I do not see it as a tremendous issue since there are people like Thomas who generously pose an alternative as a choice. Still if the Stanleys try to help others at significantly reduced rates I think that is good too. Most stoners do not want high cbd items due to the fact that most do not get you high. Developing a high CBD plant has been somewhat of a thankless enterprise so if it was done at all i am pleased to see the work being done.

I feel quite sure that many high CBD strains are being developed even as we speak.

The worst thing that could happen to this plant is for a corporation like Monsanto to step in and work their genetic magic on it. God knows what kind of Frankenstein plant they could develop. They have taken over the world food crop seed business which could prove to be a detriment to mankind. No corporation should have that kind of power, especially when it comes to food.

But... you can bet your bottom dollar that if cannabis is legalized, Monsanto will be at the forefront in developing it.

Thank you for you're prayer energy, the plants love that =)

I hope they change they're position in regard to distributing Charlotte's Web's genetics as she would be a fantastic starting point for a coordinated community breeding project. I will attempt to get a direct answer from them on if they would like to participate in such a project on any level and I will keep you updated as things progress.

I can now say with reasonable certainty that I am officially in possession of legitimate Charlotte's Web Genetics =)

It's been quite a day, and I have quite a story to tell...

After declaring to start a CBD community breeding project this morning I decided one of the first things we would need would be a couple already high in CBD strains as a starting point for selective breeding.. I decided to call Mitch over at The Bud Depot in Lyons Colorado, He's made his way around the industry to a considerable extent and he clued me in on something that I found very interesting, It turns out Charlotte's Web is actually a Charlotte's Lie... it's a stolen and re-branded strain, the original was simply named R4.

I know, that sounded way over the top to me to.... So, I got on Google and did a little research. Turns out Greenwerkz Denver does have a claim on this strain named R4, so thinking at the very least this would be a great starting strain for the breeding project I called them in hopes that they would not be keeping it under lock and key like The Stanley Brothers are doing with C-Web. And to my happy surprise they are making it available in seed form.

I immediately jumped in my truck and headed down to they're shop. Still not believing entirely the story of Charlotte's web being a re-brand of R4 I was very fortunate and felt a moment of providence when waiting in the Greenwerkz Lobby I had a chance to meet one of the owners, a very friendly gentleman by the name of Todd. I asked him permission to share the things he was about to tell me and he encouraged me to do so...

At one point the head grower of Greenwerkz was an oriental man who kept a unusual strain he called Wu-1. One day Todd one of Greenwerkz owners brought a sample of the dried Wu-1 flowers to Full Spectrum Labs to be tested in a gas chromatography machine. He knew that there was just something different about it, Todd explained that he received a rather excited phone call from Full Spectrum once they're tests where complete "Do you know what you have here?" they asked him. 20%+ CBD, this is an amazing strain! he had no idea until that moment.

Sometime around 2010 The Stanley Brother's and the owners of Greenwerkz shared a common grow space. Todd mentioned that the Stanley's where actively working with higher CBD strains at the time, but nothing not even close to the Wu-1 later to be R4's levels which are 20%+CBD and around 1% THC. This sounded convincing enough, but there was one last piece to the puzzle that finally convinced me this is all true... The tell tale genetic mutation in the buds and leafs which causes very unusual white streaks and patches (a trait I have never seen before) is present in Charlotte's Web and (drum roll) in R4 as well... case closed in my book.

WHICH IS REALLY EXCITING!!! so in front of me I have 11 F1 R4 seeds, AKA - Charlotte's Web Seeds =)

Perfect foundation for an accelerated community breeding project. I will definitely keep you all updated on it's progress as things move along.

I picked up an 8th of the dried flowers and smoked a good size bowl before writing this. Honestly, without a doubt this is the most unusual of all smokes I have ever encountered. When you smoke it you still get the expansion feeling in your lungs and it otherwise feels like you are about to have that wave start to come over you that would be expected with that inner tingle of the lungs, but you wait... and wait... and it just doesn't come. There is a feeling though, It's just not "high", and it's not overwhelming at all, I can describe it best as a more of a clarity that comes over the background of your consciousness. Whatever that means, lol =)

I will be making clones of R4/Charlotte's Web available to anyone in Colorado 21yo+ free of charge for anybody with a legitimate medical condition as soon as they are available. This includes people with out of state ID's as Colorado is tourist friendly in regard to sharing and possessing. If you need a clone you can call or text me anytime - 720-324-1507. Or call Greenwerkz Denver for seeds now!

Peace be with you all =)

Mr Mathieson I am very happy to meet such an excited and dedicated person in our industry.  thank you for sharing this story with us and I am beyond thrilled that the medical cannabis community has hope for a 20 plus % CBD rich plant to use.

you seem to be a true warrior to the cause and I am very thankful you came to let us know about this.

I would have honestly had no clue about the genetic hoarding happening around the charlotte strain had you not brought it up.

this has been a whirlwind month for cannabis activism and I am struggling to keep track of all the progress we are making on all the fronts we currently are occupied in.

thank you for taking the time to share this story with us here in Michigan

thank you for being so passionate that you went out of your way to discover the truth behind the genetics.

how very exciting.

That sounds great but I think you will have to get the plants tested to assure yourself that you have the equivalent to the Ch. Web. The reason i am suggesting this that at least in the Cannatonic Variety the seed will produce about 25% high CBD and the rest will be high thc. I went through a lot of testing and it started to get expensive and gave up because i did not find one. Finally someone was very generous and helped me out with cuts. i do hope you get what you desire out of it. The fingers are crossed in your behalf!

Yes. I brought the subject of phenotype differences up to Todd at Greenwerkz and he said that what they are seeing is a pretty consistent (some even higher in cbd) ultra high cbd / ultra low thc levels across the board.

But I will definitively be testing the flowers from these beans as soon as they're ready. I also sent an email to Greenwerkz offering them a sizable compensation if we could just cut to the chase so to speak and get a clone, I'm waiting for an answer.

ADDENDUM:

I re-watched the CNN special and just realized they actually show R4. Now the story makes more sense to me, Charlotte's parent's purchased R4 from Greenwerkz first, and had great success.. They eventually ran out and Greenwerkz was going to charge them 2 thousand a month to keep in supply when they found the Stanley Brothers who had the same plant and where willing to give for whatever they could afford.

So then the Stanley's where way more willing to help Charlotte then Greenwerkz was, this changes my feelings toward them. Furthermore Greenwerkz is trying to retain rights to all plants and finished product of the R4, they are laying down very specific rules about not being able to charge more then 15.00 / 8th , you must give clones of any plant started from an R4 seed to Greenwerkz free of charge at they're request and some other rather obscure rules that I'm not sure they will ever be able to enforce.

Maybe the Stanley's saw the actual name R4 as a liability (not to mention a kind of dumb name) and finally came up with something that was just more marketable...

Anyhow, it was interesting to watch the special again, knowing the background info the story makes total sense now =)
