Opioid Prescription As A Mmj Patient And Henry Ford Hospital

Recommended Posts

I have been a patient at Henry Ford Main Campus for many years. I'm being treated for a host of medical problems including 2 back surgeries, chronic pain and Fibromyalgia. My original primary doc was very compassionate, and was very aware that I was a medical marijuana patient. That ended about a year ago when he was mysteriously unavailable for appts. I was sent to another doctor in the clinic. All of a sudden, my care took a nose dive. I was sent to the Pain Clinic as he was not comfortable dispensing opioids. The Pain Clinic advised me I would need to sign a contract with them, endure urine testing, and they would be weaning me off pain meds as their studies show in 2 years I will not "be any better off than a patient with pain meds". I'm at their mercy, as I have several specialists there, and have an HMO, not making it easy to switch systems. Well all is fine, I am sure they're aware I'm a MMJ patient as it was discussed at length with my original doc. I go for my 2nd appt. a month later, and after waiting 2 hrs on a hard cot in a room full of patients with no privacy, the bully doctor storms into the cubicle yelling that we have a serious problem. I have illicit drugs in my system and they will not fill my RX, will send to in patient detox. Only thing in my system is THC. I present my card, which he stared at. Demanded to know why I needed it, etc. gave me one month Rx, and 1 month to "clean my system", then another UA. I was able to convince my new primary doc to take over the opioids after telling him my humiliation. Now all of a sudden he wants a contract and urine sample. I am a 55 yr old grandma, not a drug addict. I need to find a doctor willing to take over weaning me off opioids cause at this point have no desire to continue this bullying. Just want out of Henry Ford! Any suggestions?

Thanks jointedone! I can choose another health system, i have HAP, and can choose from several different systems. Not all docs are requiring contracts and urine samples as they indicated was the law, huh ?! They are so out for themselves first. Just worried that if I say nothing with a new doc, and they do find out I haven't been honest, the trust will be gone. Maybe Henry F has been bullying me for so long, I believe they're lies. I would not ask my doc for a referral, I believe my chart has me labelled as "nuts" for having Fibromyalgia and Cronic Fatigue Syndrome (won't even go there) and now "druggie" as well.

Remember, they don't make any money if you grow your own medicine, only if you use theirs.

Not only can they sell it to you, they can charge you for detox when they get you hooked, and then start all over again with new drugs.

(The first one's free)

What pain clinic do you go to the one at the main Campus downtown?

I get spine shots every 4 months they pulled this on me in 09 I threatened to sue a doctor in charge at the clinic took me aside and had me fully explain my usage and what it does to alleviate my nerve pain she gave the OK and I freely talk to them about it each visit with no problems ?

Yes I go to Main Campus Pain Clinic, they have been fine until I was sent to them to prescribe the opioids. Before they were prescribing I talked freely with them about my MMJ usage. Once they were prescribing they did a complete 180, even claimed I never told them I was a MMJ patient. Perhaps the DEA crackdown changed their minds.

I just got off the very confusing webpage for Michigan health care. The CHEAPEST,worse than Blue Care Net,is another 380.00/month.

That sounds cheap. When I bought my own insurance through my business I paid $700 per month for just basic hospitalization. It was more than my house payment and went up every single month.

They will give you the epidurals,I just told you that. It's the opiates they don't want to give you. But  then why is it okay to inject with opiates, but not give you an RX for them? Money?

Not true I was told that they consider medical marijuana a recreational drug not medicine they didn't want to do anything for any patient with or without a medical card.

Drug testing is a factor to being treated at this specific clinic  maybe I caught the supervisor on a good day because the rest of the staff acted like I was a leper once I opened up about my cannabis use.

Don't forget your Dr records follow you wherever you go.

Its on your record now that your a mm patient/ user.

A few years back my Dr wanted to prescribe me vicoden but I had to take a pee test ,I told her I don't take Narcotic's, I continued to tell her my mom was addicted to Perscription drugs ,an I was having no part of it!

She told me what I was taking now was considered a narcotic, I knew better ,ultram ( tramadol) is non narcotic.

I had been taking ultram for almost 15 years ,I did my research on this before I started taking it,I also have fibromyalgia an hep C,.

I asked the Dr when did it become a narcotic? She just looked at me.

She wanted my urine sample pretty bad ,but didn't get it.

There was one time a admissions nurse was getting paper work ready for my surgery when she asked me aboutmy mmarijuana use,I was stunned to say the least, she said it was on the computer in my files that I had a drug addiction to marijuana, I couldn't help but laugh.

I explained to her that I was a mm patient an showed her my card.

I said to her ,you see all my health issues right there on the screen ,marijuana has kept me sane.

I told her of my moms drug addictions ,legal drugs at that an I wanted no part of it.

There's only one kind of pill I will take an that's the ultram .

She told me she agreed with me and proceeded to wipe that information off my medical records.

I thanked her and thanked her.

Although ultram is non narcotic, there are still major withdrawals from this.

I've ran out a couple times over the years and it wasn't fun.

Don't ever tell a Dr you are a mm patient.

No no no

You need to find a dr. who isnt on a hospital list, as in they dont work for or with a hospital, it is the hospitals for the most part that dont allow their d.o's or m.d's to renew or certify you!  I was with the same dr. for 12 yrs, I asked my dr. about getting an mm card and getting off of the narcotics, she flat out told me she cant the company will not allow it, (mid mich health) I later called the front desk and asked for a copy of my pt records, I went and got them, they asked if I was leaving, I said no, i just need them for ssdi, well I found an idenpendent dr. with a real office to recomend mm for me, a few months later my primary dr wanted a urine screen for the 1st time in 12 yrs!!!  I had thc in my urine, she asked why, i said im a pt and showed her my card, they quit me like now!

before that I went to H.F's main campus lol I used to live down that way, I was getting the triger point shots, chryo of triger points, parafacat joint shots, they wanted me to go to their pain clinic and sign there b.s thing saying I wouldnt seek meds from any one else. I told them I will only get meds from my primary dr. who sent me to them I dont need your pain clinic, but I will be your pin cushion for a while,

When mid mich quit me, the 1st thing I did was contact my attny, he told me a dr. can quit any one they want and there is nothing I can do about it, so yea who ever got the pain clinic to keep them caught them on a lucky day, call any attny they will tell you the same thing when it comes to legal mm and a dr.s treatment!

Peace

P.s trust me I wish I didnt know all of this shtuff, ive been disabled since may 31 1998 a warm memorial weekend nite lol! we ate t-bones off of the grill at metro beach, and I got t-boned on the way home on crocker and jefferson!

Thank you everyone for your words of wisdom. I'm relatively new to all this, and had faith in my doctors. I have lost all trust and will be seeking an independant doctor. May not be easy, but either has anything in the last 5 years. Right now I am abstaining to hopefully refill meds so I can continue to taper off safely. I would much rather have my safe reliable MM than these norcotics and medical B.S.

I'm so glad I found you all!
