I Need A Caring Dr/ Im Moving To Be Legal For My Family's Sake.

Recommended Posts

I am in the middle of packing my things up and moving to southeastern Michigan to be able to Medicate legally. I'm 28 I have a wife /2 kids so this is a big step for us to move away from our family just so that I can live my life with joy and not feeling as if I'm a prisoner of my own body. I have had pelvis/hip reconstructive surgery, shoulder surgery and a severe back injury. Being in chronic pain is a daily hurdle that Im forced to jump. The past years I was prescribed suboxone for pain so I would not have to take pain pills all day. It's been almost 10-12 months since I've taken opiates or suboxone. 2-3 years ago I went to a chiropractor for my back issues and only seemed to agrivate issues days afterwards. I am still dealing with constant daily pain and I just feel alone as if I goto a Dr. In Ohio my option is surgery or pain meds. Marijuana helps me. Let's me enjoy playing with my kids and the feeling as if pain doesn't run my life. Is there any Dr. That I can meet and start to establish a relationship with before I even move into Michigan to get my medical card. I really would love to find a Dr. That can write a recommendation but also truly cares about his patients and knows that I am not a person just trying to get a marijuana card. Any info or help will be appreciated greatly. I have not had the best luck with Dr.s in the past so finding a good Dr. Is really important.

get a copy of your medical records and bring them with you.

the doctors in our state are scared, it might be difficult to find a primary doc who understands marijuana.

these cert docs i'm told do care about your health and well being.

you might want to check a phone book and start calling regular doctors and see if any of them are mmj friendly. good luck. and tell us if you find any!

From what you wrote you had a prescription for pain meds 10-12 months ago. Go see that doctor again before you move and make sure he understands your pain and writes you a fresh prescription. Ask the doctor for the last three years of your records. With those records you should be golden at the better cannabis specialist doctors here in Michigan. Doctor records are the key. There's no substitute for that.

So would Dr.Meyer do a present day physical and determine wether or not I qualify or is his opinion based purely off of past records. I made an appointment with a family Dr. Today just to get up to date that Im still dealing with pain even though i've gone to Ohio Dr's for 8 years trying to get treatment. I'm truly trying to avoid going to a cert mill.

There is a difference between certification mills and the doctors being recommended here.  Until the insurance companies, corporate hospitals, and financial institutions stop intimidating doctors into not giving out recommendations, you are probably going to be going to a "pot doc."  3 excellent doctors have been mentioned who have stood up for the people of Michigan and risked a lot to get people into the program.

Also, the doctors mentioned have stood up for their patients in court, can you be sure some random doctor is going to do the same?

Not to mention if you are going for a medical marijuana recommendation, doesn't it make sense to go to a doctor who has dealt with this before?  If you had cancer, would you go to an oncologist or your family doctor?

I agree with what your saying petyr, I just don't want to go back to my pain Dr. For another script when I've been off them for almost a year just to establish a current chronic pain issue, maybe I haven't been the clearest but a pot doc is what I'm looking for but also a potdoc that will do a physical based on current day health and not going off of paperwork entirely.

When i went back to orthopedic surgeon to establish the needed records i wound up with scripts for hundreds of vicoden.

Even after telling my doc I didn't plan on ever using them again, he just joked about street value and wrote them anyways. Strange.

You have no obligation to fill those, just throw them out.

You need to establish 'chronic pain' which is a condition that most often can't be determined in one visit. That's why you need records. Then the doctor can see that you have a history of pain which defines chronic pain. If you don't have records then the doctor has to start fresh and establish chronic pain just using his own observations. This might take several appointments over a extended period of time.

I appreciate it guys, I understand what your all saying about making sure you have documented pain issues, Im sure then it should be no problem with my history. I'm truly excited to get into Michigan and meet people who are passionate about cannabis the way I am. Biggest hurdle for us is still trying to find a place to live across the border. Thanks guys again.

Dr, Meyer did see me prior to my move to Mi, reviewed my records and performed an in office exam, and provided me with a rec prior to me returning back home and preparing to move. I am not saying this will be your experience, but I believe he will provide you with a yes/no answer and you are not required to be a Mi resident at the time you receive the rec as far as I know. Call his office in Saginaw and see what they can tell you. Good luck!

How far is saginaw from the Monroe area

Two hours tops, but worth the ride for this purpose. Dr. Meyer will create and maintain a medical chart, follow up at your request, and be there when you need him. He will perform a thorough work up, take a detailed medical history, and you will be very well documented.
