Need Help With Ez Cloner

Recommended Posts

so i just bought a 16 site ez cloner and have a few questions. so to start off i added 3 gallons of spring water then i added 15.9 so almost 16 grams of clear rez i also added 1/4 tsp of general hydroponics rapid start rooting enhancer and i phd the water somewhere between 6.3-6.5 ph pen is on the fritz. as for the cutting i cut at a 45 decree angle and then i cut up the middle of the stem and put clonex rooting gel. also they have been in the cloner since thursday so they are 3 day old now.  so here are a few questions that i have

1.how often should i check the ph and readjust when needed?

2. how often should i add the clear rez? also on the bottle it says add 1 ounce to 5 gallons so how much should i measure it out for 3 gallons?

3.there appears to be a build up by the sprayers of some white powder and some little spots in the bottom of the ez cloner dose anybody know what that may be? my option was i think it might be from the ph down or from the clear rez because i read that it has chlorine in it so i figured it might be one of them but im not sure this is my first time useing a cloner.

4.should i be adding any other nutes? i have the bontanicare line.

5.how far should the light be from the top of the clones? i also plan on getting a 4ft 4 bulb t5 this weekend.

6.how often should i change the water?

7.the ez cloner i bought did not come with an air pump but i have one should i put a air stone or 2 in the bottom of the ez cloner? would i benefit from it?

8.how will i know when roots start to develop what will they first start to look like?

any help would be appreciated as this is only my second grow

when I cloned this way I used spring water only until roots showed, they look like little webby hairs, usually white, like a fish skeleton. It took 3-6 days and I found the ambient temperature is fundamental to root development. My clones like a balmy 80 under a small 4 bulb t5 light. when roots show, they go into dirt. the added air wont hurt, but maybe overkill since the thing is frothing and splashing full time. the splashing(breaking of the surface) is when the air is dissolved into the water. I never changed my water, just added new water. I did dip my cuttings into a cloning gel.

distance of light from plants? depends on light. if cfl / fluro , get as close as possible without touching.

air stone? yes.

change the water? naw. its still good.

you might want to get a toofhbrush and scrub those sprayers if they are building up with gunk. maybe add some (like half a capful) h2o2 (hydrogen peroxide) to clean things up.

I'd rather see you use distilled water than spring water.  Spring water is likely to have a pH of around or over 8.  Distilled water will be close to a pH of 7.   But then again, I haven't ever seen a big difference in rooting time in an aerocloner whether I monitored/adjusted the pH at 5.7ish or just used city water (probably pH of around 8) without monitoring.  The big difference seems to be once you have roots...then if you're spot-on with pH you'll see some impressive growth.  For the average person growing their own, you should be good with using tapwater to get roots started.  Look through some of the above posts for info on other items such as temperature and light.  In my own experience, as long as the water temps in the cloner are under about 76 degrees, I can carelessly cut just about any viable stem and put it in the cloner with no need for 45-degree cut-under-water.....trimming leaves, dipping in any gel or powder....etc.  and about 99 times out of 100 I get a healthy rooted clone.

I built a cloner with twenty sites, but have better luck with a simple rooting tray. Temp needs to be warm, 75 to 80 degrees, and avoiding saturation, but keeping the rooting media a little more than damp and not saturated at all works best. I personally like rapid rooters.

By the way, I have a twenty site cloner for sale. I'll let it go with submerged and aquarium pumps, air stones, and sprayers. PM for details.
