Looking for a friendly accountant who can help me pay my taxes. My caregiving income is a pittance but I need to pay taxes on that and for my other businesses as well. Mostly the work is done (quicken+turbotax) but I want them to take a look, be sure I didn't miss anything, what have you.

I asked this before but managed to forget to write the info down.

Metro Detroit area Plymouth Livonia Northville Farmington Canton Novi ish area :)

Greatly appreciate and looking forward to response. PM me don't write this on a public forum.... :) I'll owe you a drink.

how is your compensation for being a caregiver considered income?

wouldn't they call it income rather than compensation and cost for the production and manufacturing.

please respond I am confused...

I know this is an old post but what the heck.

Now you mentioned you are being compensated for your time, and expertise, both of which are considerable to produce a high quality product. As far as the US Federal Government and SOM (State of Michigan) is concerned - and you can be sure of this - you need to pay taxes on all of your income regardless of the source. You pay taxes for your time at work or with your other forms of self-employment yea? SOOO.. this is really exactly the same thing as far as the SOM is concerned. The feds are turning a blind eye pretty much to this in the legalized state's so long as everybody pays their taxes...

Because - officially at a federal level you'd need to pay taxes for ALL your C.G. revenue and declare it as illegal income. I don't know anybody that actually does that, I'm sure they are not doing that in COLO or WASH where they have real money to play around with in the legal arena.

That's it, pay your taxes if you'd like to comply with tax laws. If not report less income and/or report greater expenses than actual. These are your decisions to make and your consequences to face. For me personally I have a lot of businesses and cheating would make my already complex tax situation more complex. TBH I just don't want to deal with the effort of lying, the consequences would ruin me quickly, so I just do it 100% legit. Yes, it's expensive, but worth the peace of mind TO ME.

After you do it once you might have to pay quarterly estimated taxes. Believe me it sucks hard.

Somewhere I have a copy of a letter from the Michigan Department of Treasury that states that CG compensation isn't income and isn't taxable, or something to that effect. I'll have to try to find it.

Yes you did and I have seen it. That is exactly what it says. I will check if I can find it also. I am pretty sure I have a copy somewhere of it.

I've seen that as well. I'm sure Mal could dig it up.

It was addressed to Numbers Accounting, the same firm that helped me pay my taxes on my green income.

It all depends on what you're comfortable with as far as the feds are concerned.
