3 Leaf Per Node And 4Leaf Per Node Mutations

Anyone see these?  I have some seeds that I'm surprised I got 100% to crack.  They must be 8 years old.  They were my juicy fruit line.  Problem is that I don't know if they were crossed with the seeds I found on the back of my property while hunting from a grow that they took and left the bottoms in which I found viable seeds.  I tried them and crossed it into my jf line and may have mixed the seeds with the pure jf line.  Either way those seeds were 6-8 years old when I bred them so this is the second gen over 14-16 years ago.  Either way they throw a lot of 3-4 leaf/node(3node and 4node) plants.  They also seem to have a crinkly leaf mutation they need to overcome when sprouting.  The first true leaves seem to curl and crinkle and some grow out of it quickly and some I cull because it looks like a mass of deformed leaves which take a long time to throw a shoot out of.

I used a bulb called colchicene(sp?) to make polypliod seeds about 20 years ago.  My friend read about it and we figured we'd try it.  I don't remember if it was this line or if they were crossed in way back when(can't believe I remember doing it but the Juicy Fruit was a very memorable strain).  Does anyone know if trying to make polyploid seeds would cause either of these types of mutations?  I don't even remember what we were trying to even accomplish by doing such a thing.  I think he thought it would make it more potent or higher yield.

Sorry, wrong terminology, I'm terrible with vocabulary.  It's actually 4 nodes per whirl, I think.  Usually there are 2 nodes per whirl in veg then they break to 1 node in flower.  this plant in particular is a female that started with 2 nodes, progressed to 3 nodes and the top/most recent are coming out at 4 nodes per whirl.

Yes I have a plant I call mutant Lemoncake. It started with three leaves. Now most of the seeds that start with 3 leaves have died but this one worked out and it produced a really great juicy plant that is short with the left side of the leaf having a curl to it.  Good luck with yours.

  • 2 weeks later...

It looks like my 4 per node plant turned out to be female.  Ironically I took a cutting from my male quantum kush and it started with 2/node and now has 3/node.  Should be interesting to see the resultant cross.  Neither were even near root bound.

Interesting, We'll see how these turn out.  The female is about 13-14" tall, untopped at just under 7 weeks old, 1 week into flower. Slowest grower I can remember as everything else is 2 - 4 x the height at appr. the same age.  The whirls are starting to space out on her.  Interesting little plant with a pretty much unknown background.  Can't wait till she's finished.
