State Representative Pays Visit To Davison Medical Marijuana Dispensary

Recommended Posts

DAVISON, MI -- A Republican state representative who's introduced a bill to give municipalities the power to regulate medical marijuana facilities paid a visit Wednesday, April 2 to a Davison location that could be impacted in the future.

Jamie Fricke, operator of Holistic Earth, the city's first medical marijuana dispensary located off State Road, hosted state Rep. Mike Callton, R-Nashville, giving him a tour of the facility and chatting about House Bill 4271

"It's designed to establish places like this in the law," said Callton, noting the state's Medical Marihuana Act of 2008 "really only deals with individuals and individual caretakers" and not dispensaries, or provisioning centers as they are labeled in the bill.

Fricke and Callton said following the McQueen ruling, barring patient-to-patient transfers and dispensaries could be declared a public nuisance under the state's health code, hundreds of the facilities closed out of fear.

Callton said those seeking medicine immediately, be it a child suffering from seizures or cancer patients, should be able to obtain it quickly and safely without fear of prosecution. He questioned why bills about medical marijuana are reviewed by committees that don't include health professionals, but focus more on the potential legal aspects.

He noted provisioning centers may still be shut down, if they are creating an issue in a community even after they are approved. The bill would also not allow a center to sell marijuana after March 31, 2015, unless the medication had been tested and cleared of containing mold, fungi, mildew or pesticides.

"There are not enough caregivers or good caregivers," said Callton, with a need for safe, secure places for people to go who have received a prescription from a medical professional.

"These are our friends, relatives, family," he said, citing an instance of a highly regarded orthopedic surgeon in his home area of Barry County between Lansing and Grand Rapids that tested positive for marijuana and lost his practice. "They're not some drug zombies."

Callton said the bill remains under committee review and had no date on when it may go before the state Senate.

"there are not enuf caregivers."  let me think about that, mr represerntative.    not enuf peeps who are within 20 miles of every patient want to make a $2-3k investment of $ and a continuing investment of two hours per day.  to do hard and mostly thankless work,  take up space in their house, to boot, and to feed the cash maw of the alligator on a regular basis.  so not enuf peeps took you up on that propostion.   SOME PEOPLE'S KIDS HAVE NO SENSE OF POURING THEMSELVES OUT FOR THE GOOD OF OTHERS, SO LET'S MAKE SELLING WEED A PAYING PROPOSITON?  just like every other line of commerce?  you just born yesterday?
