Please state which area of Michigan you are in so others may make a recommendation.

I suggest calling a qualified, reputable certification clinic and citing your situation.  There are a couple of highly regarded certification Doctors in Michigan that are known to work with low income patients.

I don't think that there are any insurance companies that cover certification. You may be able to find a doctor that will give you a reduced rate.

Check with your current doctor and find out how they feel about cannabis.

It might be best to say, "I've heard that medical marijuana may help my condition, how do you feel about it?".

You may luck out and already have a sympathetic doctor.

You do have the option of not discussing medical marijuana with your Primary Care Physician.  When you procure a copy of your medical records, there will likely be a question on their form as to why your are requesting, and you only need respond with "they are for my private records and or research".  This should be considered as there are Primary Care Physicians who will refuse to continue with you as a patient, for various reasons.

It took me almost 5 years to get my Medical Record and i have a great relationship with him for over 15 years long when i first talked to him back in 2008-2009 to get the chart notes i got

them the same day i met with him at my one year check up

But after the raid on us things when south he didn't want to end up in a Court room and believe me No Doctor wants to be inn Court i still do see him all the time at my last visit he took me

into his office  for over a half hour and ask me about Court and how it went

If possible sign a disclosure form and have the certifying physician request the records. They don't normally charge other physicians for copies of records as a professional courtesy.

Any doctor would be prudent to ask for records for a new patient and it's none of your primary care doctor's business why you are seeing the other doctor.

If he asks tell him you were checking into someone who specialized in pain management, allergies or even a second opinion.

What he doesn't know won't hurt you.

Hello all. I'm in a similar situation. Currently have $0 income and no job prospects. I do have full medicaid as of a week or so ago. I am trying to find a dr. who will write the certification for me and that I can afford. I have been diagnosed with Severe Clinical Depression, Anxiety & PTSD; as well as having Severe Tendinitis in both arms to the point where sometimes I can't even pick up a fork and Chronic TMJ Syndrome which causes such severe pain I am unable to open my mouth some days. I have tried everything that my primary care doctor is willing to give me and nothing works to ease the pain. I live in Standish and would greatly appreciate any help finding a doctor. Thank you.

I too am in a similar situation.

I just had my disability hearing today, (chronic pain spinal fusion stenosis etc) and again I was asked "so are you trying alternative treatments for pain? Have you your Medical Marijuana Card?" by the Adminstrative Law Judge during my hearing, and was mentioned in a way that made me feel that it was my due diligence pursuing legitimate pain treatment. It was asked in the same manner by my Physician- but since he is my physician through Medicaid he for some reason doesn't certify for MMMP (Priority Health policy?)

Is there any help for Medicaid patients out there in getting certified? All I seem to find are 99$+ certification fees.  It seems there must be a way for Michigan Medicaid patients to afford this.

Any advice? Thanks!!

be careful reports have it some doctors will pee test you if you even mention it then send you packing when you fail the pee test for MM

Dr. Paul Meyer in Saginaw is an excellent option. He has actively advocated for cannabis in government forums and serves the community exceptionally well. Following patients as their primary care physician is an option, and he sometimes walks into the exam room strumming a guitar. Stay the hell away from physicians who have had their license suspended or revoked.

Thanks so much for the info! I am located in Grand Rapids Michigan I will contact him and Saginaw but has anyone known of any of this sort of great physician or agency that will help Medicaid patience with little or no income awaiting disability in the Grand Rapids area? Thanks again any help is so much appreciated. Both of my primary care doctor and the administrative law judge at my disability hearing both have told me I should try medical marijuana and seemed confused as to why I wasn't. They do not seem to understand that without any help we are left on irone as coming up with the $200 fee acquiring the card is an obstacle in itself. Thanks in advance again and best regards. Matt

Grand Rapids, Mi, thanks

Certifications are a cash and carry thing. Medicaid, and for any other insurer, is not required by the law to pay for them. You're on your own.

Good luck Matt.
