Tail pointing up regardless of length here never had any issues.

I misunderstood picbooks question what I do is crack the beans on damp paper towels then once the taproot reaches 1/4 to 1/2 inch I drop the bean into soil with the taproot facing up.

I'm with t-pain.  Even though I misinterpreted Kds. Taproot ? ...goes down

I plant my seeds with the "tap root end" pointing up, if no root is showing, because the root will curl down. If a root is showing at germination, soaking in water etc, , I carefully plant it the way it wants to grow, with the root down. Any other way and I've see the root pull itself out of the hole, to dry up in the light.
