Happens in the Private Hospitals as well ! After yrs of feeling like scit. The VA precribed the drugs that made me feel good. I went to the Eye Doctor, and he said i was over medicated. I took offence with that, and told him so. I am a combat vet, purple heart, etc. and suffered for yrs with PTSD, it ruined my life. until i got meds for PTSD. And one other thing, never mention mmmj use, their are a Federal Agent.

sometimes eyedoctors can tell if you have problems with overmedications.

e.g. jaundice caused by pain pills or other serious prescription complications.

its good to get a second opinion , sometimes doctors can offend, but sometimes its good advice too.

whatever works for you anyway :)

th

the VA medical division is really coming under fire recently for a bunch of violation. I suspect a swift homeland type revision soon

I hope I can come to share your confidence gm. The hairbags in congress will fight to refuse another nickel in funding. Whether the issues can be corrected with only policy changes remains to be seen.

well

as a Combat vet also i want to say Thank You  :goodjob: for your service.

i felt like i would address the "don't mention mmmj use" comment.

i tell every one at the VA about my cannabis use and precisely how it helps me.

it's scary and yes you may be cut off of some prescription medications.. and questioned(interrogated) about medication and uses...

my personal opinion is that everything happens for a reason.

i tell the doctors up front and they are most often extremely interested to hear what i have to say about cannabis and its use..i am able to often times use the situation as a teaching opportunity.

really it depends on how you feel.. how you feel when you are there.. and how well you can explain yourself.

i want to say that yes i absolutely agree with you about not mentioning your cannabis use to the VA it could compromise your medical prescriptions at a minimum...

that being said if you are going to take any medication that alters your bodies chemical state...I feel like we should be able to talk about it with our doctor... including prescription drug use as well as cannabis use.

and so i do.

i have said it before and i will say it again... the VA medical staff are setting the standards for health care in Northeast Michigan !

my eye doctor in the Saginaw VA hospital just dropped a bombshell on me this week during a followup eye exam...

turns out they can spot plaque in the eye and i needed to have an immediate ekg.

went in tue am to eye doc n Saginaw.. phone was ringing when i got home in pm to schedule ekg in my home town clinic.

they spotted something at my eye exam i would have never guessed....

turns out the eyes really are a window into thy body :)

had ekg today and i am anxious to hear what it means..every day i feel like i learn something new about my body and the way it defends itself..

My Dad is a vet and has nothing but good things to say about it. The reported misconduct in a southwestern state is an isolated incident. Nonetheless, there are those who are stirring a tempest in a teapot. They are making another Bengazi out of it.

what is their motive for such an outburst of issues you think ?  I'm not a vet but every single one I've ever met has nothing but praise for the entire system. This is tough for me to swallow on television.  I smell a rat

i fear one of the most dangerous issues i have witnessed is other vets complaining about entitlement.

i watch many vets who complain and gripe about everything they see...

many feel they are entitled to something...

i know that if a person shares some faith and hope along with a smile then things will go smoothly... i know for a fact because i have witnessed these things over and over again.

  • 3 months later...

Overmedication for PTSD is not new. Thorazine, (which is still RX), Melarill, Stelezine, new SSI's and all heavy psychotics, which are basically poison.

When it comes down to it, very few clinicians even have a rational grasp of what combat PTSD actually is.

Instead of heavy incapacitating drugs, a mild approach such as MJ is much more effective, you don't have to commit suicide or drool to manage PTSD. I speak from forty-five years of experience with this.

It is up to you as a Veteran to get your own health in check. There are many alternatives to the VA and what they prescribe. More times than not they are prescribing the same thing that other regular Doctors are, which is crap. It is not their fualt either, it is just the system in which they operate.
