8In Inline Help

Recommended Posts

so i have an 8in inline fan for my intake and i have a 8in inline pulling my scrubed air and heat from my hoods to the outside of the house.  i was wondering if i have to put a 8in vent in? or if i could use my 6in vent that i have now and just put a 8 to 6 reducer? also if i put a reducer in will that ruin my 8in fan due to restriction or what?

Though gm has the right idea, ie: Get Growing!

Just so you're not the one being puncked, I've provided some data for you to base your decision.
So first we'll start with an area calculation. For a circle, Area=pi x r
the area of the 6" pipe which would have a radius of 3 so 3.14 x (3 x 3) = 28.3 in2.
whereas the 8" would be 3.14 x (4 * 4) = 50.26 in2
Showing a difference of  50.26 - 28.3 = 22 in2 reduction
This shows that your 8" fan has the equivalent of a  44% blockage inline!
Hook it up, if you want and plan on getting an 8" vent...sooner or later  ...peace

Else say your fans velocity is 600cfm going through your 6" vent, [ apx 600x.56 ] = 338 ft3
