Florida -- The stakes are getting higher - politically and financially - in Florida's heated campaign over a November referendum to allow doctors to prescribe marijuana.

The latest financial reports by the two main groups fighting the legalization of medical marijuana show a total of more than $7.7 million has been raised to oppose the constitutional amendment on the Nov. 4 ballot.

The Republican in charge of the Senate in NYS is sitting on the bill(not allowing a vote) that has passed the house umteen times because he thinks the research isn't there yet. WHO CARES WHAT YOU THINK LET THE VOTE DECIDE!  But he did allow a vote on labeling the wood frog as the state frog.  So much more important don't you think?  FUXIN republicans and democrats!  If the dems weren't such pussies they'd make it an issue and force it thru.  Why do we hire these darn people?  If U don't want to smoke pot WE WON"T FORCE YOU. Why do people have to control what everyone else does?

I understand completely.  I think often about jumping onto the tea party wagon.

Nah

In that case was the law legislated in the State Legislature or by ballot?

WE THE PEOPLE need to vote in the people who we want to be in charge. You said Republicans are in charge yet you call Democrats pussies because they don't do what they could only do IF THEY were in charge. Not fair. I do agree with your question, "Why do we vote in these people?" You can only blame the voters and who they voted for, the majority rules and the minority follows.

Our Dem pres goes and forces something through and he's no hero for it in the public eye, but he's not a pussie eh?

Maybe that's his legacy:

'Obama, he was no pussie.' lol

A man takes care of his people. That is what we do. The conservative expectation that everyone pull themselves up by the bootstraps without a helping hand when someone needs is not that. Obama is obligated to help a lot of us out. They have a lot of people to help out. They will not do that.

So call me a pussie I guess.

Started in the house and has been shot down by the senate a bunch of times.  I don't think they've had dem control or the joint control of the senate they have now when it's come up for a vote before.  I believe he is scared that it will pass with Cuomo passing his version of medmj thru hospitals for cancer and aids patients and the joint control that dems now have in the senate, rep always had the majority and sole control of the senate.  At least that's what I've gleamed from my not so in touch knowledge from news snipits here and there.

That is not the first time a state legislature had fukd things up. But what ballot proposals have failed?

None that I know of, it's never been brought to the people.  I was saying let the senate vote instead of sitting on it.  I think it'd make it.  Case of one rep using his power to squash something because it actually has a chance with the senate makeup this time.

Polls are showing close to 90% support for the upcoming referendum. Republicans can throw all the money they can find at the issue, but will be simply throwing it away.

Volusia County, FL - A new Quinnipiac University poll finds majority support in Florida for legalized medical marijuana and also support for legalizing recreational use. The poll found 88 to 10 percent asked support allowing adults to legally use marijuana for medical purposes. That included 84 to 13 percent among voters over 65. A smaller majority-53 to 42 percent-supported letting adults legally possess small amounts of marijuana for personal use.

That poll was conducted last month and talked to more than 1400 registered FL voters. The margin of error was plus or minus 2.6 percentage points.

The complete poll is here.

This poll comes as FL voters will consider a medical marijuana referendum question on the November ballot.
