Nyt: Politicians’ Prescriptions For Marijuana Defy Doctors And Data

The main gist of the article seems to be that the scientific evidence for cannabis' medical benefits is thin (while admitting that scientists have their hands tied because of schedule 1) and that politicians are responding to anecdotal evidence from constituents.

Ends with the glaucoma red herring (red herring because although there are now better treatments for this disease cannabis was a useful treatment. At this point it's really an irrelevant topic.)

It'll probably make you angry.

I think the fact is that the electorate has reached the point that our demanded changes are about to come to a reasonable end. There will be outliers who will continue to whine even afterward. We own the issue because we have taken it from the antis. These kinds of columns give me the chance to chuckle or laugh out loud.

I sometimes wonder if the electorate isn't just plain fed up with all the BS surrounding marijuana and they have come to realize that the illegality of it is more harmful than the drug itself. ?

Sure that is an important consideration, if not the most important. It is part of the reasoned argument against prohibition. There are not enough legitimate arguments to continue it. The people know and are speaking in huge numbers.
