Ny Times Calls For Repeal Of Federal Ban On Marijuana

zachw

Recommended Posts

The New York Times editorial board on Saturday endorsed a repeal of the federal ban on marijuana, becoming the largest paper in the nation to back the idea as it compared the U.S. government's stance on America's most widely used illicit drug to the prohibition on alcohol from 1920 to 1933.

It's a big deal.

Here's the actual editorial, Repeal Prohibition, Again.

like i called it.

obama writes a sternly worded letter to the editor of a paper when he is too lazy to support or gain support for his policies (legalizing marijuana).

well this is a step, another in a long line of staircases that needs to go forward in order to legalize apparently.

flower executive orders :D

Bush’s Drug Czar: NY Times’ Pot Editorial Shows They’re ‘Living in the Past’by Evan McMurry | 7:48 am, July 28th, 2014 VIDEO 79

walters.jpg.jpgJohn Walters, former Drug Czar for President George W Bush, told Fox & Friends host Steve Doocy that the New York Times editorial calling for the legalization of marijuana on a national level showed the editorial board was ignoring the science on the subject.

“They act like they live on another planet,” Walters said. “More people are in treatment for marijuana than all other illegal drugs combined. More kids, as teenagers, are in treatment for marijuana than alcoholism, as teenagers. We’re not keeping it out of the hands of kids.”

“This isn’t the way they treat environmental toxins,” he continued. “This isn’t the way they treat regulations that affect the safety of Americans. All of a sudden they’ve deicded they want to live in the past. All of the science, monthly, is showing more risk. At a time when science is telling us one thing, the New York Times is acting like it wants us to be ruled by Cheech & Chong.”

Walters went on to say that the legalization of recreational marijuana in Colorado was a “disaster,” and represented a “wholsesale failure to enforce the law by President Obama.”

I wish they would've outlined more that all these initiatives are being voted in by the majority of we the people while most politicians do nothing.  They should have done more to point how out of focus most of these politicians are with their constituents.  That's what I tried to highlight to Andrew Cuomo, who should be taking heed of this.  He's punishing the people who voted him in, they all are punishing the same people they are supposed to represent!.

Walters said. “More people are in treatment for marijuana than all other illegal drugs combined."

Because more people are forced into court ordered treatment programs for marijuana than all other illegal drugs combined.

Not because they need treatment. Just a money making scam for the "justice" system.

Dude, you guys are the ones who act like you live on another planet and want to live in the past. You are part of the Conservative Movement that ignores and disputes science. Dinosaurs lived with man and the Earth is 6000 years old? There is no such thing as human induced climate change? Please don't try to cite "science" as your reason to oppose marijuana because you folks have no credibility when it comes to scientific discussions.

So please, stuff a bong in your pie hole and STFU.

Marijuana prohibition will be studied for years as an example of the power of persuasion, mass hysteria, and the power of the government to control society by manufacturing a bogus threat out of thin air.

OH and Greg? Fox has higher ratings that all your lib"news"stations put together. At least get you facts STRAIGHT before you make an ignorant comment. You know darn well your numbers are decreasing as the truth finally comes out.

Irregardless I will get my news from PBS and Frontline, Stewart, and Colbert. I find Fox to be silly and watch it for entertainment, not taking their reporting and editorializing as factual enough, and  consider it oftentimes simply trolling for ratings. Fallacies are their baseline. MSNBC is pretty much the same. We apparently disagree, and I'm okay with that.

Do you agree then with Walters that mj is a toxic substance?

You KNOW I don't. Why does everything have to be in black and white? Life isn't that way, there are many grey areas. Judging someone by GUESSING at how they vote,is rude and illegal. Your voting rights are guaranteed by the Constitution and are yours alone. STEWART and COLBERT? I thought they were just hosts of shows, like big mouth OReilly? Now you are saying they are news reporters? OMG. Are you for REAL? And tell me again how Fox isn't killing the liberal media, they are number one in ratings. You find it "SILLY" that Israel is under attack, most of our embassies in the middle east are being evacuated,(so no more "silly" stories like BENGAZI) and  you support this? "Silly". Tell that to all the parents and the families that the fake prez will not even speak to. Ambassador Stevens was a big barry and Hillary supporter. Just shows you how they will "Support" you sheeple. You should be taking in some of the illegal immigrants that are flooding into our country right now. Put your mouth where you say your support is. You should be helping them, shouldn't you? Yeah I guess we do disagree and I am so happy that you are "okay" with that. SILLY. Jebus, what the heck is happening to our country? You would be killed for your remarks in a terrorist country. Oh wait,we DO have terrorists right next to the fake prez barry. Ones that grew up right here, and bombed our own federal buildings and killed our own people. This is all yours now. Barry owns it. Even he is too sissified to take blame and throws all his people under the bus....just like he will do to his supporters.

Doesn't matter who reports the news there is always a bias.

As for Israel/Palestine they both share blame.  As long as there is religion there will be religious wars.  Who owns Palestine or the Gaza strip?  As humans we should be able to sort it out and compromise.  Imagine if the indigenous peoples of this continent still tried to claim ownership and take the land form the white people.  Would they be right?  They were here first until several nations claimed pieces of N. America as their own with the indigenous still living on it.  France claimed the land sold in the Louisiana Purchase and sold it to us.  This country is no less founded on conquering than any other.  We are all to blame.

I find it ironic that we are now calling the shooting down of the civilian airliner by pro-Russian rebels a war crime.  We did the same thing in 1988 when we shot down a civilian airliner in the middle east but that was okay.  290 people perished.  We are a very might-makes-right nation.  And then people wonder how the police can run amuck.

Nice post, Franks.

I was trying to recall, when did we start sliding down this slope of political news reporting?  I can recall that in my house growing up, Cronkite, Huntly, Brinkley, and Dan Rather, were viewed as honest, telling it like it was types.  I didn't really know what political party they were in.

Today, there are slants and agendas everywhere.  I do move around to different sources to try to get some balance but yeah, some TV sources, such as FOX and MSNBC, both make me laugh with their shameless bias.

When and where did we start to get such politicized reporting?  Did FOX start this?  Just askin...

Oh. I like John Oliver and Bill Maher very, very much. Hillary is my pick presently for next President, and I hope she picks Warren as Vice Prez. I can get along with about half of what Paul is about, but the other half is plenty enough to rule him out. I hold President Obama in high regard. Running a country of almost four million people is tough. My people emigrated from Eastern Europe in 1911. I do not begrudge anyone who wishes to be a citizen in this country. To do otherwise is cruel.
