In what could be the largest marijuana growing operationfound in Texas to date, a deer hunter stumbled upon what officials have estimated to be 44,000 cannabis plants, and that’s just part of what they’ve found so far.

Deputies in Polk County took to the air to scout the area, finding 19 other fields full of pot plants as well.

The hunter was at his deer lease in Goodrich off Old Highway 35 Saturday when he saw the plants and alerted authorities.

Polk County inmates were helping uproot and clear the massive fields on Monday. The grow operation was very sophisticated according to authorities, with water being fed to the plants from a nearby creek. There could be as many as 100,000 plants after everything is accounted for.

One suspect is in custody and more arrests are expected. A camp was setup nearby where the gardeners were living.

Operations such as this one are often ran by members of Mexican drug cartels.
