Medical Marijuana Numbers Decline

Recommended Posts

While Colorado is smoking pot — medical and recreational — by the ton, according to a recent report, the number of medical marijuana patients in Livingston County has decreased.

Proponents of medical marijuana say this is due to intimidation by law enforcement.

“Individual communities within each county are permissive or restrictive based on their own beliefs,” said Rick Thompson, editor and blogger for The Compassion Chronicles. “Howell is not pleasant toward medical marijuana patients, but Livingston County rural areas are not quite as difficult.”

Thompson said his opinion is based on “patient testimonials” and statistics.

Some of those statistics can be found in the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs’ annual report, which shows that the number of medical marijuana patients decreased to 1,786 in 2013 — a 4 percent drop from the prior year and a 22 percent drop from 2011.

However, the use of the illegal drug appears to be alive and well, as Michigan State Police statistics show that an estimated 73 percent of all 2012 drug arrests in Livingston County were marijuana-related, which Thompson said bolsters the perception law enforcement is unduly targeting marijuana, which he calls a “victimless crime.”

“It’s not an addiction issue like heroin,” he explained. “I would rather have police concentrate on drugs that lead to death and violence, not marijuana. …

“If I were a drug officer, I can choose to pursue marijuana operations or methamphetamine operations,” Thompson added. “I’m not saying marijuana is something they should not pay attention to, but on a grand scheme of things, pursuing marijuana to 74 percent means there must be other dangerous drugs not being given attention.”

LAWNET — the Livingston and Washtenaw Narcotics Enforcement Team — is the multijurisdictional agency tasked with investigating illegal drugs in Livingston County.

Commanders and officers of undercover drug units like LAWNET typically do not provide information to the media about their investigations and seizures because they say it will compromise an ongoing investigation or their ability to work confidential informants.

121,xxx in April 2014. We have more individual patients than all other states that have a registry*... (*CA, WA dont have registries) Nice going MI !!!

Livingston County are dedicated proponents of the incarceration business. They are lobbying for a new jail now, if they didn't get it already. Of course the old one is over capacity.

LOL

Actually if you look at the cases the drug dealer and disp fronting as legit are being shut down and prosecuted.

We the People are all for Medical MJ...that Is what we voted for, not testing, not disp, not concentrates and not recreational.

Who are you to say what the people voted for, the people voted for access to medicine, testing is a great idea, if it stops someone from smoking some cannabis that's filled with mold and toxins. I agree with everyone about concentrates as well, even though I won't have them made for current patients until these bills pass or fail.

Sorry you dont like the law.

If more followed the letter of the law we would still have concentrates,  medibles, ..

Thank the greedy drug runners

The more folk  that break the law, the more the COA will restrict our access.

Your getting what you deserve and asked for.

How about we Totally Decriminalize Cannabis?

Grow however much you want, where ever you want...just like tomatoes.

Open disp and farm markets.  The price will plummet, the quality will improve, more research could be done by many independant growers.  The cartels would have no market.  The War on Drugs would end.

Problem solved

I'd think it natural to believe that many people voted for our Act simply because it was a step in the right direction, medical or not. Those who used recreationally voted yes mostly, those who believed in human rights voted for it mostly, and those who needed a safe medicine legally voted for it too...resulting in the majority of us. We should focus on the why and who of those who did not approve of our Act.

You are a fool if you think the concentrates and medibles ruling was anything more than trying to defy the law as written.,,,,,,,,,,,

So are you for complete Decriminalization?

Where is the effort in this direction.

All efforts have been to control, test and restrict home grows and the cg/pt system.

If you are sincere....Free the Weed

Otherwise you just want your piece of the pie and carruthers is your guy. What a piece of work this guy is and you prop him up as a hero.

He is a zero not a hero.

5104 is dead, But keep throwing your money down that hole if you like.

Stay safe. Avoid disp.

Protect the Home Grows....That is what We the People voted for.

Decriminalization is the only way to move forward IMHO and stop people from going to jail

1.Decriminalization

2. with a plant count and a cap on big money coming in and growing lots of cannabis plants

3. City's and towns can fine you and that way Leo can still get the $$$ to keep their Job's

4.

With a plant count and a cap ........

Sounds like another recipe for folks to go to jail. Let it fly without strings on it is the only way things will sort themselves out without people going to jail. Just set it free for Gods sake. What are you afraid of?

Just because one bozo breaks the law why should I be denied using cannabis? I only have 60% lung function and can barely breath air, much less smoke or vape.

Are you saying that the only way I should be allowed to consume my medicine is to risk my life?

I do want "my piece of the pie" because the law as written says I can have it. The only thing that stands in my way is ignorance and a piece of crap in a black robe who has his own agenda.

The law clearly says "preparations thereof". How do you define that? Do you agree with the dictionary definition or the Court of Appeals definition?

prep·a·ra·tion

ˌprepəˈrāSHən/

noun

noun: preparation

the action or process of making ready or being made ready for use or consideration.

"the preparation of a draft contract"

synonyms: devising, putting together, drawing up, construction, composition, production, getting ready, development

a substance that is specially made up and usually sold, especially a medicine or food.

synonyms: mixture, compound, concoction, solution, tincture, medicine, potion, cream, ointment, lotion

"a preparation to kill off mites"

This state clearly needs more adult remedial reading classes.

What I prop up is the law.............. The law is my hero.............. Concentrates are written in this law.......... Have you not read it?

A piece of the pie? Really? How about the sickest of the sickest patients that need concentrates? My efforts are for them. My efforts are not for me they are for my fellow patients...............

Edited to add that yes I am for full decriminalization.

Here is the bottom line Beourbud. If you believe and agree with the COA that medibles and concentrates are not protected by our law then you and the COA are wrong. If that is the case then Carruthers didnt take anything away from anyone.

If you believe that the COA is wrong in their decision then you should understand that Carruthers didnt take anything away from anyone. The court of appeal did. That makes them the zero.
