Gov. Rick Snyder Objects To Saginaw's Marijuana Decriminalization Ballot Initiative

(excerpts)

"The language is inaccurate because it is does not inform the voters that the proposed amendment conflicts with state law or that state law will control regardless of whether the proposed amendment is adopted," Snyder wrote in a letter received by City Clerk Janet Santos on Aug. 19.

The letter from the attorney general's office also points out that state law requires any proposed city charter amendments submitted through the petition process must be submitted to city voters for approval in November, "even if the governor has declined to approve the charter amendment."

In a memo sent to Saginaw City Council members, City Attorney Andre Borrello recommends the body — at its Monday, Aug. 25, meeting — "receive and file" the letter from Snyder.

Borrello had strongly advised Saginaw's leaders to approve the ballot language despite any personal misgivings or objections during the Aug. 11 City Council meeting. He reiterated that in the memo, writing that state law requires initiatory petitions "be submitted to the electors, notwithstanding such objections.

Though not all members of City Council had taken the attorney's advice at the Aug. 11 meeting, all Council members present Monday night voted to take his advice and receive and file the governor's letter."

Sending a message is pointless. Why is Michigan's legalization movement dragging it's feet? It seems that those people getting paid to push for full legalization are just as aware of how much money their organizations will lose if it cannabis is legalized and regulated across the country. No wonder NRML is pushing itself as a BBB for cannabis, now. They see the cash cow bleeding itself dry, as well.

How about a full state decrim initiative then?

cough up the million bucks for that. oh and if you've been paying attention, the fuchs in state congress have been like 4 for 4 on fuching over ballot initiatives.

the wolf hunt guys did TWO ballots and got interceded twice.

the 10.10 min wage ballot got fuched by the legislature too.

the emergency financial manager ballot question which all of michigan voted out, and then the legislature made a new law the next day.

but hey, lets keep voting republican. those guys really like the people of michigan...

what we should focus on is in the city proposals, we shouldnt have any limits. full decrim. none of this $100 ticket infraction crap either.

You can't tell me that it's possible in CO, but costs too much to do it here... Let's be honest at this point we're really just waiting for the profiteers from both sides of the isle to retire, or find a more profitable line of work. To give concession to t, I will say both states that have legalized are democratically led and we have seen nothing but opposition from the heads of the Republican Party, here in Michigan. Even the policies republican lawmakers are coming up with to make them look caring, are painfully restrictive.
