Bond Motion To Use Medical Marijuana Denied

A Livingston County District Court judge has denied a Hartland Township mother's request to continue using medical marijuana while she is on bond for allegedly selling marijuana to police working undercover.

Catherine-Ann Margaret Coviak, 49, is charged with three counts of delivering marijuana to an undercover officer in May.

It is alleged that on one occasion, Coviak delivered a "small amount" of marijuana while on a second incident she sold the officer 1 pound of marijuana, which she reportedly had for her own medical purposes, for $3,000.

Assistant Prosecutor Daniel Rose opposed the defense's request to change Coviak's bond conditions, saying when a person moves from a self-described small amount to 1 pound, she has clearly moved from "casual" use for medical purposes to trafficking.

Judge Carol Sue Reader, who listened patiently as Coviak's attorney argued about his client's medical need for marijuana, was firm in her response to the request.

"I'm not going to approve anybody using marijuana," she said.

At the hearing Tuesday, Coviak waived a probable-cause hearing, sending the case to Circuit Court for trial.

No new court dates were set as of Thursday.

CEO's, Bankers, Wall Street, they all do much more damage and they make money, a lot more than 3k.  Why the tilted scale in prosecution.  If it's bad to make money why isn't anyone in jail for the housing collapse? They made A LOT of money on that and ruined lives.  MJ doesn't ruin lives except for prosecution and is a VICTIMLESS crime.  How did the US get so screwed up?  49 year old mom and she can't use her meds.  When will a 49y.o. CEO be banned from running a company?  Instead they take a gov't job regulating. Geesh.

Well, you can't sell it to someone your not connected to either so....  This is what I mean about protecting laws.  When you make them too strict without reason people think, well I'm breaking one law.  You really think they would've let her go or use if it was 2 transactions of 1/4oz. each.  These are just excuses and props to divide the MJ support field.  Stupid, maybe, I don't know her financial situation.  But to throw people into an increasingly bad economy and dangle money in front of their faces to see if anyone is corruptible is as much entrapment as I've ever seen and a disgusting way for a LEO to make a living.  Get a real job!
