Callton Continues Push For Medical Marijuana Dispensaries

Recommended Posts

While lawmakers return to Lansing for a session day on Wednesday, not much is expected.

But proponents of medical marijuana are hopeful to push their legislation during the lame duck period after the election and before the end of the year.

Their proposal would allow for the return of regulated marijuana dispensaries.

Supporters, like Barry County's Mike Callton, say dispensaries are essential, since not everyone can find a personal, legal provider and few really know how to grow their own.

"If I touch a plant, it dies," he said.

There is also a proposal to allow for non-smokable forms of the drug, including edibles.

Opponents have said expanding the law will open the door for more illegal use of the drug.

All of the guesses are right imo but something is going on in Lansing

No they ain't all right. That's my problem here. If Callton is pushing for dispensaries for big business benefactors then it seems like he'd be against dispensaries as I'm sure big pharma is. So why is he carrying the torch. I wanna know.

habenero: its simple.

if callton wants more money from pharma what does he do?

he campaigns for anti-pharma. then he gets all his buddies to do the same.

then after the election, what happens? oh a bunch of donations from pharma come pouring in to reverse course.

classic 'play both sides against each other' ploy.

i still cant believe the bill got 100-9 in the house.

Yo T, seems like an interesting way to get campaign money but it ain't the case. I wondered if he got campaign contributions from some Canadian company so I looked up all his past campaign finance filings. Most of his money has come from health care organizations, doctor groups, chiropractors, nurses' association, and several big pharma firms. Eli Lily, Merck, etc. Been that way for years. He was already getting money from them before this bill came about. Doesn't seem like he would work against his biggest donors. So my guess is that big pharma doesn't feel threatened by anything marijuana.

No one goes this far in politics and then stabs their biggest donors in the back. So there must be something else out there. Why is this his pet project? I'd like to know. Guess I didn't consider that he might be trying to do some good. I don't know. Just wondering what his motives are.

You really think asking a politician a question like this will prove helpful? Like he's gonna say "yeah bro, I'm in the pocket of Canadian interests." Maybe he'll say "I wanna open my own dispensary." Yeah right. No politician is gonna give a straight answer. He'll say the same thing he says to the media, that some people don't have access without a dispensary, yadda yadda. I see that as disingenuous.
