Marijuana Halloween Candy Found?

It’s an unfortunate sign of the times, and these days a mandatory parental obligation to thoroughly inspect your children’s Halloween candy stash for opened packages of candy that could have been tampered with or to make sure there aren't any razor blades in the apples your kids may have collected during their Halloween rounds. And this year in Maryland, parents have to make sure there aren't any marijuana infused candy products mixed in with the kids’ Snickers bars

‘One candy bar is not like smoking one joint; it’s like smoking seven joints.” ~ Substance abuse expert

On Oct. 31, The Prince George’s County Police Department in Maryland, held a press conference to inform the public that just before Halloween, their “Narcotic Enforcement Division along with the Maryland Area Drug Task Force seized several boxes of candy infused with marijuana.” Boxes filled with the marijuana infused candy were discovered in Prince George’s County that came to Maryland from the west coast and Colorado. Marijuana infused candy items like taffy, blueberry chocolate bars, mint chocolate bars, and banana-walnut chocolate bars were confiscated by police. “Each piece of this candy contains 100 milligrams of THC,” according to the PGCPD.

“This is the first time we’ve seen this product in Prince George’s County. Despite the on-going investigation, we felt it important to let our community know that products like this exist so parents and guardians ensure the candy doesn’t somehow wind up in their children’s Halloween candy bag,” said Captain Chuck Hamby, Narcotic Enforcement Division Assistant Commander.

CBS News in Baltimore reported that the look-alike candy items had a final destination of Laurel, Maryland. Police warned that it would be very easy for the marijuana infused candy to get mixed in with the children’s Halloween candy.

And although Captain Chuck Hamby with the Prince George’s County narcotics division said that “I would consider this as dangerous as if you’d let them smoke marijuana,” it’s actually much more dangerous for a child to ingest a full piece or bar of the THC infused candy. Mike Gimbel, a substance abuse counselor in Baltimore, explained that eating the candy is far more dangerous than smoking a joint – even for the experienced user who realizes that the candy is infused with THC.

“One candy bar is not like smoking one joint; it’s like smoking seven joints,” Gimbel said.

All because it doesn’t have an effect right away.

“The user thinks they’re not high and the tendency will be to take more of it,” Gimbel said

Police also emphasized that at this time they have no reason to believe that the marijuana infused candy was designed to be passed out to unsuspecting trick or treaters; but they wanted to make sure the public was informed of the situation. As of this writing, there haven’t been any reports of the marijuana infused candy products being discovered in any of the kids’ Halloween buckets.

Police also said that although this was the first instance of the marijuana infused candy being confiscated in Maryland, it probably won’t be the last. “If there’s a demand for it, it’s going to show up,” Hamby said.

You can bet if medibles were indeed found in any kids bag it was a plant by law enforcement or some other anti cannabis opponent to discredit medical marijuana .

Certainly there are wackos out there that would do that.  Get some sort of sick pleasure out of the idea of some kid in a stupor.

But does it matter? It ain't a reason to ban marijuana. Think about the damage that an old school razor blade would do compared to marijuana. What about narcotics?  Maybe some sicko injecting heroin into some caramelly, nougaty, or liquid filled candy.

Would rather my kids eat candy with the thc content of 7 joints than eat something with an oxy in it.

Talk about a solution searchin for a problem.

Noone like ever messes with any Halloween candy.  It is always just a fear hoax.  Only like a few examples of any tampered candy in history, and typically only a prank. One was like an Uncle poisoning his nephew/nieces with pixie stix or sumtin.

urban legends and wives tales for the most part.

I don't recall ever hearing a legitimate Halloween candy tampering story in my entire life.

Apparently some religions view Halloween in a negative light. I think they compare it to Devil Worship or something. Well, my answer to them is this:

You can't have "darkness" unless you have "light", you can't have "up" unless you have "down", and you can't have "God" unless you have "Devil". It is kind of a Zen thing.
