I skipped this thread until today,... literally read a mere couple posts and  I guess put in my 2 cents.

Topic:

Yes. I would hope it is a sin in all religions so when we burst the bubble on intolerance of marijuana, we also bust the fallacy of all religions.  :-)

A comment was made about Christians not beheading people in this century.  This world is littered with Christian terrorists just the same as muslims.

 Examples you say?

Bombing of abortion clinics.  Slaughtering of physicians, one even shot while in a Christian church.

The KKK is Christian. Aryan Nation is Christian. Army of God is Christian. The covenant. The sword.  The arm of the lord. Hutaree Christian movement.  Lambs of god. Etc etc etc etc.

Christian groups are responsible for most terrorism in the US by around 1000 fold.

Edumacate yourselves thank you.

And well,... All fundamentalists are scum as well as those that use religion for their own means. That goes from the 700 club to Osama as far as I am concerned.

Good post.  Even my middle school kids see the problem.  We went to a middle school orientation last August before school started.  One of the teachers was addressing a group and proudly stated that she is a Christian.  Great, she is proud of her beliefs.  I support that.  But I don't support a teacher in a public school making such a proud declaration because I can't help but think that any kid who isn't a Christian might be looked-down-upon if he/she doesn't identify himself/herself as a Christian.  At a minimum, a Jewish kid, an atheist, a Muslim, would be uncomfortable sharing his own religious beliefs because the authority figure clearly believes something else.

A few years ago, I was watching a news clip about a protest at an abortion clinic.  One of the protesters yelled to a female doctor...something like "Is this good Christian behavior?"  The doctor shot back, "I'm a Jew."

My main trouble with Christians in this country is that, in general, they seem to go through life feeling like just about everyone else is a Christian, and they develop an arrogance that ends up dis-servicing their own cause.  I used to work with a guy who was a very respectable and upstanding devout Catholic.  When we'd talk religion, he'd say things like "we believe.....XXX" as opposed to "this is how it is."

I hate to stereotype, but in my experience, Christians in this country behave as if they are undeniably right, that there is no reason to support their beliefs....simply blind faith.

I'm not one to base my position on catchy phrases, but recently I did see one that rang true - "There are about 2,400 active religions with distinct "gods" in the world today, but yours is the RIGHT one."

Tigers v White Sox. Red Wings v Maple Leafs. Black v White. Red v Brown.  Ford v Subaru. Socialism v Capitalism ...see Separatism:

I beleive in my case I was dragged into religion, whether it be catholic or baptist (i do consider them both to be christian)  when my mom baptised me catholic I had no choice, when my wife and I repabtised ourselves baptist my son had a choice, baptist dont baptise baby's,,,,,as far as I know, they have a dedication for the infant and let them decide to baptise them selves when they are old enough!

I dont practice any religion,,,,,I do have to say when I look around I have to think something greater than I created this beautiful place I live in!

I honestly dont mind during the holidays when town halls and such put manger's up for decorations, I dont like that one person can make them take it down!  I dont want any kind of religion in our public schools, if I wanted religion in school I would send my kids to a religious based school, but I truly wouldnt care if they put up a manger to celebrate christmas!

Christmas is supposed to be religion based, but it is now commercialized and just a time for the big stores to make a ton of cash! all of the holidays are good for the greeting card company's, I realy dont like it, valentines day and sweetest day!  come on that is a day made up by greeting card company's,,,oh valentines is a religious one eh?  st.valentine?  mothers day, fathers day. grandmas day! lmao, I wish I would have thought of the the card industry, I would own my very own tropical island and not allow any religion to be practiced in the open lol!

Peace

The "Christmas" holiday has been celebrated long before "Christians" adopted the "pagan" holiday as their own.

originating from following sources. I have no shareable opinion on the matter, but was curious  myself.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas
http://realtruth.org/articles/169-ttooc.html

How Did Christmas Come to Be Celebrated on December 25?

Roman pagans first introduced the holiday of Saturnalia, a week long period of lawlessness celebrated between December 17-25. During this period, Roman courts were closed, and Roman law dictated that no one could be punished for damaging property or injuring people during the weeklong celebration. The festival began when Roman authorities chose “an enemy of the Roman people” to represent the “Lord of Misrule.” Each Roman community selected a victim whom they forced to indulge in food and other physical pleasures throughout the week. At the festival’s conclusion, December 25th, Roman authorities believed they were destroying the forces of darkness by brutally murdering this innocent man or woman.

B. The ancient Greek writer poet and historian Lucian (in his dialogue entitled Saturnalia) describes the festival’s observance in his time. In addition to human sacrifice, he mentions these customs: widespread intoxication; going from house to house while singing naked; rape and other sexual license; and consuming human-shaped biscuits (still produced in some English and most German bakeries during the Christmas season).

C. In the 4th century CE, Christianity imported the Saturnalia festival hoping to take the pagan masses in with it. Christian leaders succeeded in converting to Christianity large numbers of pagans by promising them that they could continue to celebrate the Saturnalia as Christians.[2]
The problem was that there was nothing intrinsically Christian about Saturnalia. To remedy this, these Christian leaders named Saturnalia’s concluding day, December 25th, to be Jesus’ birthday.

The earliest Christmas holidays were celebrated by drinking, sexual indulgence, singing naked in the streets (a precursor of modern caroling), etc.

Some of the most depraved customs of the Saturnalia carnival were intentionally revived by the Catholic Church in 1466 when Pope Paul II, for the amusement of his Roman citizens, forced Jews to race naked through the streets of the city.

I think it's unsanitary for the Pillsbury Dough Boy to be walking naked around food on the dining table.

what is it with all this "human sacrificing" bits anyways ?  Then the Christians make up Transubstantiation, a weird magical ritual of magically changing bread and wine into human flesh-- "not merely as by a sign or a figure, but also in actual reality the body and blood of Christ" frikken scary azz sect that would be if reintroduced today ! Reading of these rituals brings to mind occult practices after only a few words. I hope millions are not being deceived. I feel indifferent when I see a manger at city hall, it makes no difference to me, some of my own family members decided to celebrate their holidays on dates different than prescribed also, for convenience, finances, logistics, although we all know the real dates of course, and just enjoy the pretend time together.

Wanna here a story of "Human Sacrificing"? Don't mind the Transubstantiation. The Holiday we are about to celebrate throught the Commonwealth is called Thanksgiveing. I t also is open to various interpretations. A little closer to the truth is presented here it is the celebration of The Real Story of Thanksgiving.

... the mind is such a terrible thing to waste. Is that a sin?
