medical services personnel; State agencies (existing), community health; Crimes, controlled

substances; Criminal procedure, evidence; Torts, liability

 

Health; emergency services; protocols that require emergency response vehicles to carry opioid

antagonists and require emergency services personnel to be trained in their use; require medical

control authorities to develop, provide Good Samaritan immunity from certain controlled substance

prosecutions, and provide other immunity for administering opioid antagonists. Amends secs. 1106,

20919 & 20965 of 1978 PA 368 (MCL 333.1106 et seq.) & adds sec. 7421.

 

HB 5604 OPPOSE

Motion to Oppose brought by Undersheriff Pfannes; motion supported and passed.

- Bill provides immunity to other people involved.

- Opposed based on Sec. 7421.

They want, more than anything else, to project an air of competence. When somebody pops their "competence/ego balloon" they get a little perturbed. Some of them are quite full of themselves.

Vice News just gave this issue its humanity back, by putting a face on the issue.

 

Lt. Det. Patrick Glynn Commander Special Investigations & Narcotics Unit "years ago we would just arrest, arrest, arrest, and we wore out a lot of handcufs, and it just doesn't work." He goes on to say "Within the first 18 months of the program we were able to reduce deaths by 66%".

 

Even if you don't know a heroin addict that faces the dangers of overdose on a daily basis, chances are you know someone that's being over prescribed. This law doesn't discriminate between opiates, it just gives people who are dying, a second chance at life.
