Do The Medicines You Take Criminalize Your Driving?

Specially-trained police officers called "drug recognition experts" or "DREs" are spreading across Michigan. These officers are trained on a 12-step evaluation and use a matrix to diagnose what drugs are "impairing" you - even if your doctor prescribed the drugs to you and medically-cleared you for driving. Did you know that no peer-reviewed scientific study validated the DRE protocol? The only step in the DRE examination that is beneficial in a prosecution for OWI/Controlled Substances is the statement from you about what medications you are taking. Never tell an officer what medications you are taking. The DRE validation studies show that an officer’s ability to accurately predict what a person has taken in terms of medication is less than 50/50 unless the person tells him. If you are arrested for operating while under the influence of your medications, it is important for you to have an attorney who is not afraid of this junk science and is willing to combat the officer's claims in court. Mike Nichols is that attorney. Mike Nichols is trained on the DRE protocol and helped train other lawyers as well.
