so this is going to be fun

i sincerely hope :)

i will be using KISS soil

with a 6 gallon octopot

R/O water

in custom made mobile trellis units.

day one

just ordered the octopots and i am beyond excited.

i can't wait to see how they automatically water my girls.. as intelligent as a person can be i promise you figuring out how much water to give cannabis plants is exhaustive work..

one minute they want way more

the next way less.

its a daily chore that beats me into the ground and i don't think i do it very well.

this is my experiment

my Grow Journal

i am going to run 5 plants from clone size to completion with these octopots and share my experiences with anyone who wants to come along for the ride.

this should be a blast.

welcome dro..

should be fun right?

i know right T

thats an old photo that just shows the stands.. it was as i built them and installed them but before i rearranged the room and made the plants in the stands more available to the light.

the inverse square rule?

no wait..

the second law of thermodynamics?

lol

just being silly

i am in a really good mood as i sit here waiting for these octopots...

the light is for certain lower now

and those ladies are so long gone its not funny :)

i figured its as much fun to see where I start this journey as it is to see where i have been...

this is the beginning of my photo journal.

i will show step by step once my new toys arrive..

some background info:

i just got wiped out completely by fungus gnats... learned a very hard lesson -any invader in the grow room is an invader and you must deal with them immediately

before December 2014 i thought fungus gnats were just a nuisance.

after wiping out my entire flower room and loosing months of work... 3 to be exact.. i wont make the mistake of underestimating a invader in my grow space ever again.

if there is a foreign invader in your grow space.. rather it is in Veg or Bloom- act now - act quickly - act decisively - don't wait.

now... i use a solid regiment of all natural pest controls including Diatomaceous Earth.. and i am winning the war between cannabis plants and exoskeleton creatures.

no more fungus gnats with the octos I believe.

how did they wipe you out?  I've had a few outbreaks too but nothing ever looked like it suffered, unless I drenched the soil with silliness or the like.

thanks grass..

i built them..with the help of a good friend.

and i would say.. well ok wait.. its kind of a complicated question LOL

if you include the revisions and trials i would say i have somewhere near $30 invested in each.

i could easily replicate them now that i have it figured out for closer to $14 each not including my labor.

i don't like plant stakes and tying... i just figured give her support and let her grow ya know?

well

if the truth must be told.

in my own ignorance i thought they were nothing to worry about..

so i let them be.

HUGE mistake.

they hit critical mass and wiped out all my roots in the flash of a second..

one minute i was thinking.. geeze there seems to be a lot of them flying around.. the next minute all my plants FROZE in their growth..

the maggot phase took its toll and whammo no new growth.

good idea Grass

i will take pictures of my yellow sticky traps and highlight my experiences with these little devil creatures in another thread.

in the end..

after neem

after a lot of other sprays

after so much loss..

i finally ordered predator nematodes and mites and within 2 weeks they were gone.

first time in History right?

predator mites and nematodes worked.

thank you God.

i need to start another thread discussing this because it was huge in its impact and there was not much out there i could rely on for information..

and if one person gets help and finds a solution from my experience then i am validated and feel really good because i could help.

neem, coriander, canola, dlimonene, olive, soap, hemp oil, at least one of them was cycled full time in my hydro system, flood and drain, hydroton. roots loved it.

in dirt...well, it stops the bulk of the natural eco system by killing the fungus and bio buddies in the bucket. surface sprays on dirt do little/no harm in my experience, and leaves don't mind either of course.  when that system ends abruptly the plant is not feeding and suffers. Plants in promix fed salt ferts suffer less soil pests and recover quickly from a neem/soap drench/flush.

I'm curious, I've never used predator mites, how do you deal with them after their job is done? Do they just starve and disappear eventually? Or is it like a buggy battlefield, carcasses askew?
