2Nd Driver Who Struck Muskegon Man No Longer Faces...

MUSKEGON, MI - The Muskegon County Prosecutor's Office has reduced from a five-year felony to a 93-day misdemeanor the charge against a driver who allegedly struck a fatally injured man lying in Apple Avenue.

Ronna Lifer, 33, of Muskegon Township is now charged only with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, according to Chief Trial Attorney Matt Roberts of the prosecutor's office. She had been charged with driving while intoxicated on controlled substances causing serious injury.

The charge was reduced because an autopsy showed Lifer's vehicle did not cause serious injury to Rory Deshawn Robinson, the 28-year-old victim, Roberts said. Robinson, who later died of his injuries, was still alive when Lifer's vehicle allegedly struck him, the prosecutor said.

Lifer's car allegedly struck Robinson - already lying in the road after being struck by another vehicle that had left the scene - in the legs. According to a medical examiner, that did not cause further serious injury, Roberts said.

"Serious injury by the law carries a very specific definition," Roberts said. "The injuries she caused by striking him would not fall into that category."

The original arrest warrant against Lifer had accused her of driving under the influence of a "controlled substance." A prosecutor earlier said she was alleged to have been driving under the influence of marijuana and prescribed medications.

Authorities have previously said Lifer stopped after allegedly striking Robinson and called 911.

Meanwhile, "the investigation into the first driver is ongoing at this point," Roberts said.

The alleged first driver came forward Feb. 5 and was cooperating with investigators at that time, a prosecutor said earlier.

Police have said that driver left the scene after striking Robinson late Saturday, Jan. 31,

According to earlier information released by the Muskegon Police Department, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Apple and Stevens Street shortly after 11 p.m. Jan. 31 and found Robinson lying in the road with "serious, life-threatening injuries."
