Eating Dried Buds


eating dried buds get you high?

i'm curious if anyone eats dried buds and what the effects are.

does everyone get high from the dried buds?

 

some have reported that they got no effects from eating fresh bud (picked off a living plant for example).

 

i know for some people, eating dried bud can upset their stomach. please take that into consideration.

if you are planning to try eating dried buds, i would say it is the same effect as a strong medible (8 to 24+ hours of effect). start small, like a small teaspoon of bud. chew it well and drink it down. eating on an empty stomach makes the effects start quicker. i've even had a complete 6 hour delay before feeling the effects (once) so i am not sure what happened there.

Well I just took a capsule full of dry sift unactivated raw literally 10 minutes ago. I do this all that time and it makes me high relaxed and calming but no where near as high (couch lock or extreme anxiety) as activated delta-9 thc. I also have some rosin pressed from dry sift that I would assume to be partially activaed. I should put some in a capsule tomorrow and see what's up.

I used to think I would eat buddz right off the plant, but I never have, I do eat my vaped left overs and they work real nice, I like to make butter for eating that tends to hit me later than sooner like said above, many of times I have had english muffins and cannabutter for breakfast and come noon or 1 im trying to figure out if I just burned one,  because it realy hits a few hrs later. some times I forget I even done it, now oil used to take longer than it does now to hit me when I eat it, but now it dont seem to take longer than most pain meds about 45 minutes.

 

unfortunatly at this time I am not growing so I dont have enough to experiment with like I used to, my fav is bho!

I have a patient that wanted to treat with out getting high, I have been giving them dried, but non activated, flowers ground up.. they do not get high, however as it ages, they noticed that it does get them high,, I believe, it naturally decarbs as it ages..just my 2 Cents..

I have experienced the same thing. Can't explain why sometimes it would take 6 hours to hit me. Sometimes it would hit me within an hour. Never figured out why.

 

The most potent joint I have ever had, I ate half of it. I was stoned for over 24 hours, just from eating a half joint. It was too potent for me. I believe if it was fresh dried buds, it would not have offered any noticeable effects. The reason why I believe it had such strong effects is that the buds were at least 6 months old, stored in an air tight jar. I believe that in that 6 months, the buds naturally decarbed.

 

I did a little more experimenting and believe that most buds will naturally decarb within 4 to 6 months. The downside to this process, it is almost impossible to determine when the buds are fully naturally decarbed. With my naturally decarbed oil (no heat in the process), kept in a liquid state (still containing solvent), it is easy to tell. If stored in a vial, and the vial has not been opened for 5 to 7 days, shake the vial and open it, if it releases pressure and starts bubbling like a shaken soda, it is not done decarbing. If it does nothing, it has finished decarbing. Simply keep the cap off, allow the remaining solvent to evaporate. You will have to stir it around a little and it may take a few days for the solvent to evaporate completely, but when it is done, well, it is the best oil I have ever had, no comparison. I have not had much feedback from others who are trying this, but for me, there is no going back to a heat decarbed oil. Natural decarbing rules for flowers or oils!

 

By fully reading your top comment, I can clearly see you have had a similar experience as me with the buds.

i think you've hit the nail on the head growgoddess.

 

the buds i've been eating are old (over 2 years old), stored in a jar in a cool dark place. they have naturally decarbed. it would be interesting to see old buds tested by a lab to see the contents.

Maybe someone has a better understanding than I do when it comes to the science of natural decarbing.

 

It is kind of odd with my most recent extraction to create a naturally decarbed oil, I call it ND Sap. I did 2 quick frozen washes of premium buds. then I did one more wash for a lower grade product. I also allowed the third wash to drain for a longer period of time to capture all that I could. For some reason, the lower grade wash from the same bud material as the first two washes fully decarbed more quickly than the premium oil. In fact, the higher grade extraction is still decarbing.

 

I wonder why this would be. Everything was the same. Same bud material, same solvent, same type of storage, etc. Why would the lower grade product decarb more quickly? I will say this, the lower grade extraction is very impressive. One small drop is plenty for me for two days! It tastes and vapes good too. Can't wait for the premium to finish decarbing.

it could be that the first two washes stripped surface waxes and oils off, and the third wash got more down to the base level? or more chlorophyll speeds up the process? or ...

 

without having an electron microscope its more of a guess.

 

have you read many books on essential oil extracting techniques? there maybe insights in there.

great, more reading to do.

wait, longer wash? how? just grind up bud and toss it in a bottle then soak?

is it possible that it oxidized while soaking? if oxidization causes the decarbox, i wonder what chuking bud+alcohol in a blender would do? be careful blending alcohol of course...

The fizzing is the creation of CO2 during the chemical changes throughout the decarbing process. I don't believe there is any degradation going on, like oxidation. Someone on another forum posted the actual chemical change that occurs during the process. I have been reading essential oil books which has helped me to determine the oxidation factor. Also, sampling the product, it is by far better than other methods I have used. It is the other oil products I was making that were degraded by way of using heat to decarb. It sure seems that way based upon the samples. It is amazing how much CO2 does get created by the time it is fully decarbed.

 

There are so many variables to be considered as to why the lower grade oil has decarbed more quickly. I am just grateful to be able to tell when it is finished decarbing.

 

During the decarb process, a vial that is only half full of the solution can just bubble up and spill right over the top within seconds of opening it. Sadly I have learned of this the hard way, more than once or maybe it was the easy way? :)

 

Maybe I will have a better idea when the other batch has finished decarbing. It will be nice to be able to compare them.

 

I am really happy to see that others have experienced natural decarbing.

Nice article, but I must admit, he is incorrect about a few things when it comes to decarbing. I was not able to read it all due to the false information. It does not take years for it to naturally decarb. He also stated that it will never decarb without heat. Looking at it from my aspect, those statements are grossly incorrect. He may be correct if the concentrate he is referring to is a solid. It would be more difficult for the concentrate to create and release the CO2 if that were the case. Heat decarbing comes with a cost. It causes damage to all of the medicinal properties of the end product. I have compared it side by side for over a year now. There is no going back. No more heat decarbing for me. This is not to say that natural decarbing does not have its cost. You have to wait, it requires patience. The product needs to be stored for a long period of time before it ready, however, this is only months, not years. As they say, good things come to those who wait.

 

There is some good information in the article and it is worth the read, but don't take the information as absolute.

I have not eaten dried buds, but, when I bake brownies I use cleaned meds; (no sticks or stems; at least half an ounce) and add it to my brownie mixture and bake.......a pan of brownies, that is. They turn out just fine, but I have found that the brownies from the edge of the pan are not as potent as the ones toward the middle of the pan...hmmmmmmmm

I wish I had enough matrials and patience!

 

I most def would love to let bho totaly evape on its own lol!

 

Im from the me want it now generation, but seeing how I have to wait so long before getting the chance to make some, I should just be pt and let it evape naturaly, I use warm water from the tap to speed up the evape and than I put it in my special jar and put it on a cup warmer for the shortest amount I can to get the nasty stuff out!

it  takes 85f to rapidly remove butane or alcohol from the concentrate. At that temp I've noticed no degradation of cannabis constituents compared to a room temp evap. Higher than 109f and I notice it.

 

dry buds upset my tummy, and give me no evident positive effects. hashish is very pleasant eaten for me. I cant think of a better pain free day than my last eaten 1/3 gram of hash and a hot coffee on a sunday morning. :bong2:
