Join Us Live In A Town Hall Discussion About Legalizing Marijuana

TRAVERSE CITY -- Join us Thursday, May 28 at 6 p.m. for a Your Voice Your Future Town Hall discussion about legalizing marijuana.

With a handful of states such as Colorado and Washington approving the legalization of marijuana, the issue is now being talked about in Michigan. Some Michigan communities have passed measures that decriminalize marijuana and several groups are organizing petition drives to put the legalization question on the ballot in 2016.

The event will be held in Milliken Auditorium on the campus of Northwestern Michigan College. You can either attend the event in person, watch on our website, or chime in through social media. Doors open at Milliken Auditorium at 5:15 p.m. and seating is first come, first serve.

Sheriff James Bosscher

 

James Bosscher has been the Sheriff of Missaukee since 1989. Under his leadership the Sheriff’s Office has grown to become a multi-faceted, modern police agency. Dedicated to meeting the responsibilities of the office, Sheriff Bosscher and his staff continue to be devoted to the concepts of protection for and service to the public.

 

Grand Traverse County Prosecuting Attorney Bob Cooney

 

Mr. Cooney was elected Grand Traverse County Prosecuting Attorney in 2012, after serving as Deputy Civil Counsel for the county from 2005 to 2012 and as Assistant Prosecuting Attorney since 1993.

Mr. Cooney is a member of the Prosecuting Attorney’s Association of Michigan, the National District Attorney’s Association Fight Crime-Investigation Kids Michigan Chapter, the State Bar of Michigan, Grand Traverse, Antrim, Leelanau Bar Association and serves on the executive Board of the Traverse Area Narcotics Team, the Prosecuting Attorney’s Association of Michigan, Medical Marijuana Committee, and is a member of the Northwest Prisoner Reentry Steering Team of the Northwest Michigan Council of Governments.

Rep. Jeff Irwin

 

Jeff Irwin is serving his third term as state representative for the 53rd District, which includes parts of the city of Ann Arbor and portions of Ann Arbor, Pittsfield and Scio townships. Rep. Irwin continues to focus on leading Michigan’s economic recovery and creating jobs. Irwin has been working on legislation that would address the legalization of marijuana. He sits on the House Appropriations and Elections Committees.

Matt Marsden

 

Matt Marsden has worked for a president, a congressman, a governor and the state senate majority leader’s office.

In 2004, Marsden added to his Washington D.C. resume when he led the team to elect former state senator Joe Schwarz to the United States Congress. He served as Chief of Staff to Congressman Schwarz for two years, and has maintained a close and trusted friendship with the Congressman in the years since he left Washington D.C. In 2006, Marsden returned to Michigan fulltime and accepted a position with newly elected Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop. He served as Bishop’s often-quoted spokesman for four years and stayed on as a senior advisor to Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville when Richardville was elected by his caucus in 2010.

Since co-founding RevSix Date Systems located in Pontiac Michigan, Matt has worked to help restore Congressman John Conyers to the primary ballot, contributed to the Personal Property Tax Ballot proposal winning in all 83 counties and aided the RevSix team in winning every election effort the first year the firm assisted in. Since 2010, he has also served as an adjunct consultant to the non-profit organization Foundation for Future Prosperity, and is currently contracted as the spokesman for the Michigan Cannabis Coalition ballot proposal.
