Repeal Cannabis Prohibition 2016

Recommended Posts

But .... then the wealthy and the government won't be able to make money off us! :startle:

Yes they will, but the same as any other tax 6%.

Cannabis users will not be singled out and extorted for their choice.

Think of the revenue that could be generated with out applying a sin tax.

going to tax medical?

No, nor food.  MI already has laws in place concerning medicine and food items.

Taxation at the point of sale.

It may be difficult to wrap our heads around of the ramifications of total repeal of cannabis prohibition in MI.

Living under tyranny, some of us for our entire lives, tends to skewer our clear thinking of possibilities. jmo.

I've come out of the cannabis closet and am not voting for another law (legalization) that will limit my natural

right to use cannabis.

so you voted for mmma then, but wouldnt do it again?

i'm not picking on you (well maybe yes) but i am just curious about the logical argument.

I voted for MMMA.

At that time I really didn't give much thought to it.  I felt that anything was better than what we had.

I did have trepidations about the 'medical' aspect and later find I had good reason.

I felt then as I do now, that the time was ripe for medical cannabis.

I had signed pro cannabis petitions through the years with the same lackadaisical attitude.

Since joining this site and becoming more involved in the community and this issue, I am paying

closer attention.

I no longer think that 'something' is better than nothing.  We no longer have 'nothing' we have medical cannabis.

While flawed no doubt, I still believe it is better than quasi legalization.

I do not believe any legalization law will stop people from being arrested and incarcerated for choosing cannabis.

It just changes how they will do so.

Any legalization law that may be voted in, is also subject to change by the anti's, no different than the MMMA has.

oh, pick on me all you want :)

If I don't have an answer.. I will find it or someone that can explain better than I.

so , boiled down... you are saying:

"flower you got mine".

"flower you" to the 1 million adults who use cannabis in michigan, "got mine" mmma even though 3 million people voted for the mmma, without them- we would have nothing.

at least , thats what i think it looks like. i could be wrong.

(also i'm sorry to post this in this thread, thanks for answering my question. i'll stop being mean now, maybe.)

Absolutely not what I meant, please don't put your ideas into my words.

If you paid any attention to my posts through the years, you would already know this is not the case.

For the record... I don't think you are being mean :)

Also, I've went with out cannabis more often since the law passed than prior to, just another bit o info for you.

Actually, I personally know more people who use cannabis that are not in the program & who never have been, than those who are.

Some have qualifying conditions and could get their card and choose not to, others just refuse.

I speak to people each and every chance I get about cannabis, while out in public and the ratio remains about the same.

I am talking about those outside of those I know from the cannabis community of course.

What I find alarming is the amount of people I speak to who are totally unaware of the status of cannabis in MI and

hold on... about 1 in 5 of those don't care about it one way or another.

While nearly 63% is a huge amount of MI people that voted for Prop 1 2008... there still remains approx. 3 million

or so that did not vote for it.

I'm all for this if it comes to fruition. However, doesn't this just leave the regulating in the hands of the legislature again? This is the primary concern for those oppossing both mcc and milegalize, correct? Given the choice, I may prefer not to give them a blank canvass.

I do hear you on this T.

That is the point Tim Beck makes in supporting Welday's proposed initiative.

The other way of viewing this example would be to say, recreational mj proponents should not ride on the back of medical mj patients and caregivers to secure their goals.  It could be suggested that medical and recreational should be on their own pathways, and I for one, would agree.  For me, to allow someone the freedom of smoking one joint (recreational per Mr. Beck), should not trump the patients and caregivers rights and often long term relationships.  In addition it seems clear that the legalization proponents often would actively seek to trade medical mj rights, in the name of public safety et al, in order to secure their goals.

Unfortunately this is a slippery slope full of unintended consequences in terms of the voters.

I will sign the ballot initiative for MILegalize it.  I do not believe I will sign for the other two.
