Milegalize Money Bomb?

Recommended Posts

We need to pump some donations into MiLegalize. I've been watching their donate page and it hasn't moved in days.

I'd love if we could organize some type of day to have a bunch of people donate. Ideally, it would be before July 25 since there's a donor matching dollar for dollar up to $100k.

Anyone interested in this? It would be great if we could generate another $1000 (at least) on a single day to inject some extra funding. If that is then matched, even better.

I can commit to $50 right now. Who will join me?

ask some michigan celebrities to twitter about milegalize.

maybe eminem, alice cooper, ICP? who knows.

get awareness, dont bother talking to mmma patients and caregivers, they already know about milegalize.

talk to the regular people who dont know about marijuana legalization.

talk to the disc golfers, the football fans, the movie nerds, the comic book shops, the grocery stores, the gardening stores, the concerts, all of the concerts.

talk to the unions. i remember the food workers union have been friends with the medical side before.

Already working the facebook and craigslist angles :)

Heck, even if a bunch of people can spare 5 bucks, every little bit helps. Especially right now with the dollar for dollar matching. I know money is tight, but the proposal that hits the ballot in 2016 will definitely shape the environment for all of us in very short order. I personally don't want the Mi Legislature setting any kind of tax or having the control MCC would be granting. If MCC wins, we can effectively kiss medical goodbye :(

I'm not sure what page can be watched to determine donations going to MILegalize- but there have been some good contributions lately- including $10,000 from Ann Arbor Medical Cannabis Guild. That said- we do need additional funds and volunteers. As mentioned- all donations, up to $100k total are matched- $5, $10, and $25 donations are very helpful as are people willing to get signatures.

MILegalize or we're probably going to get screwed. :(

I am in full support of MILegalize

Too bad it is all coming down to money. Money is tight for many families these days, but the big businesses have plenty.

It is too bad that it comes down to money, but that's how these things go. MCC is officially kicking off their signature gathering TODAY and it sounds like they're well funded.

I've been watching the nationbuilder link for donations at

https://milegalize.nationbuilder.com/donate

Its currently sitting at $8,375 (which means someone donated 5 dollars today, thanks!)

It is possible many are not donating due to the amount of personal informaiton required to submit a donation. Such as requesting your employment detalils.

I can afford to submit a donation, but cannot afford to give up personal details to that extreme. Makes it kind of difficult to share the link when I am not willing to give up that kind of information.

Any suggestions?

There is no "extreme" details necessary- name, address, occupation- if you have one- same as all campaigns.

People are donating regularly- many are trying to help us secure matching funds for the entire $100k- so that we can end July with nearly $250k

We will continue to need funding and volunteers throughout the campaign-

Unfortunately those details are required under Mi law. It certainly seems odd, but lol michigan I suppose. I poked MiLegalize on their facebook page to see if there's any alternative, but I know of none at this point. Certainly seems like a lot of info to me too, but sometimes we have to take that chance to make effective change.

I'll respond with what MiLegalize says about that info. It's definitely a Mi election law thing though.

Absolutely this! Imagine the power we would have if we could utilize all 100K of that matching money! It sucks that money is power in these things, but it's the cold hard truth :) Let the "little people" show the "well funded" MCC that the fight is on :)

It looks like this thread has had over 120 views. I'm sure some of those are duplicate, but even if it was around 100 unique views, imagine if each view could donate 5 dollars. That would be 500 in donations, plus the 500 matching!

Just goes to show how a lot of little amounts can add up.:)

I still haven't heard back regarding the info on the donate page. Just like @jamieuke said though, that info is the same info requested for any kind of political donations in Michigan.

Cheers

Here's the info so far from MiLegalize:

"Election law any donation over $20 must have a name and address... Over $100 we need employer info also"

Hope that helps, let me know if you have any questions and i'll see what I can do to help.

Rallies and the such, don't seem to be working. So time to fight back with money.

As promised, I just made my $50 donation. A little back story:

I've been somewhat involved in politics for a while. I've always made sure to do my research and know information about a cause or candidate. I'm one of those people who spends a lot of time researching candidates, even for local elections, to make sure I agree the decisions I make. I'm also one of those people that will print my ballot the night before going in to vote, prefilled and ready to be copied down onto the official ballot.

I also have NEVER donated any money to a cause or drive... until today. MiLegalize is he first political movement I've donated to EVER. THAT is how much I believe in it and want it to pass. I'm planning to make additional donations at least monthly.

I know money is tight. I have a mortgage, animals, family, cars to maintain, etc etc. I understand if people can't just drop $50 on something, and I respect that. However, every dollar helps, and every dollar adds up, so even if you can only spare 5 bucks here and there, I'm sure it's appreciated.

We cannot let MCC win this. It will drastically alter the landscape for cannabis in Michigan for DECADES. We all know that MCC will eliminate medical all together, eliminate homegrow or hobble it to make it not worth the investment, and allow the mi legislature to setup the tax rates. You know as well as I do if Mi Leg is allowed to set tax rates, we'll see taxes at 50% easily.

This impacts us all, medical AND recreational, and that is why I personally have decided to make my first donation to a political cause ever. We need to protect our patients and our recreational users.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. Thanks to all of you who have donated so far, and thanks in advance to those who are planning to donate. We can unite and destroy the republican money machine that is MCC. They have a set of big time donors, we have a nearly unlimited group of "normal" people to fight back with.

Cheers

We appreciate your donation, but if you do not respond with the information requested, we will be forced to refund your donation. Unfortunately, because of Michigan law, we have 0 choice in the matter.

How do you KNOW that our legislature will not just change MiLegalize to work the same as the MCC proposal?

They are the law makers and they do what they want to regardless of what we vote in.
