This summer I decided to try a new approach.  I quit using AC and a dehumidifier altogether.  I also shifted from DWC (using a chiller and multiple air pumps and circulation pumps) to soil.  I run two six-inch blowers with carbon filters 24/7, 4 4,000-watt lights in the flower room, and an eight-bulb 4-foot T-5 in veg.  I also don't use AC in my house.  (I grew up without AC and still, except on the hottest of nights) don't need it.   I open windows and run fans.  I've been watching the plants very closely for signs of mildew and bud rot, and so far so good.  My most recent bill for gas and electric was $518.  I live alone in an approx. 1800 SF house - gas water heater, gas dryer, gas range.  I rarely cook during the summer, and when I do, it is usually on the grill outside, which costs about $20/month in propane.  Most of the lights in my house are LED.  I have a well, so my water is also covered in that cost.

When I was married (and not a grower) and living in a 3,600 SF house with wife and two kids, the bill was usually about $700/month year-round.  Back then, I probably paid $300-$500/month for meds "off the street."

I'm pretty happy with my utility bills.  The electric portion goes down in the winter due to the drop in per/KwHr cost, but of course, the heating bill goes up, so it is pretty much a wash.  If I can pay for my own meds and supply (at this time) three patients, and cover my own personal utility use for $500/month year-round, I'm ecstatic.

4 4,000-watt lights ? With no AC Wow! Thats real good what Temp does your room get to on these Hot day's ?

When i  was growing i always used AC and if i was growing in a basement in the summertime i would also use a dehumidifier and never without C02 i guess things are done different today
