How Do You Want The Site To Be Moderated?

there were some ideas to clean up some old threads on the site. curious what you, the people, want us to do.

keep old off topic threads? delete them?

continue the policy of removing as much personal info as we can?

some complain after moderation is done, here's your chance to help and communicate...

cleaning up old threads may help the new people that come here only because things have changed so much the new people need to know what the Law one of 2008 protects and doesn't

protect today  inn 2015

and what can happen if they grow cannabis for medical reasons and don't follow all the rules set up  by the  High Court  they have put upon sick to prove in a Court of Law if they our caught

growing cannabis ( with out scaring them to much ) i know if i where new here and had just gotten my card and came here to read the last two MSC cases and rulings i wouldn't grow cannabis

i would get a caregiver or just go buy it somewhere it's cheeper then a Court room with a Lawyer

Mediator > Moderator

If those threads weren't fit to censor when they were posted I believe they should remain.

“Those who control the present, control the past and those who control the past control the future.”

I agree!

I dont realy want to say to much I may get banned for life again, but im pretty sure those im power know how I feel, I am still here but do not like the way this site is going again, it seems a lil click likes to make sure threads go their way, and they are willing to ruin a thread to get it taken off or locked, I thing the instegaters of such nonsense should be dealt with,  I dont even think I have to mention any names, Im pretty sure people who like me  know who im talking about, and the people that dont like me know who im talking about!

Not knowing diddly about site functions etc... I just want to toss an idea out there...

Music threads that are several years old and numerous pages long take me forever

to open.  I wonder if there is a way to archive the oldest of them so they are still available...

anyway...

We lost enough posts on this site due to upgrade snafu's and the likes and I say we

need not loose more.

I believe it's just as important to record how our law evolved, as is what it has evolved into. Removing the steps we've taken along the way, the conversations

leading to resolve, and even the repeated outbursts of some in the forum seems deceitful to me. but think of the bandwidth savings....of thousands of reposted youtube music videos.....

archiving them.....we'll be able to say "hey look, Grassmatch thought it kind to share this song from youtube today, in 2006"     useful?   any song can be found on the youtube search engine.

Removing threads will adversely affect google stats.

Out of date and off topic posts:

For clarity, what are "off topic" and/or old posts? I realize there are non-medical MJ forums here: do you mean those are "off topic"? Does "old" imply a post contains out-of-date info or was it merely posted a long time ago? Perhaps "out of date and misleading" would be more accurate. Do most post you'd consider "out of date" pertain to laws (statutes) that have changed or been ruled-on by courts over time? Some growing or extracting techniques may be considered out of date, but still have some reason for being used.

If you are trying to avoid any reader from being hurt or damaged by misrepresentation or misinterpretation, then you may have a big job since you can't easily protect visitors in all circumstances.

If you want accurate and up-to-date info, then a wiki model is what you need rather than a posting board. Posting forums are supposed to be redundant, wordy, confusing/misleading/biased, frustrating, often out of date and perhaps dangerous if blindly trusted.

Mods editing posts:

Established users probably should not have personal info removed since they should know what they are doing (unless drunk or self-destructive). But newbies' posts should be edited if the mods feel the need. The disadvantage of allowing established members to post personal info is that newbies may follow suit and post more personal info than they should. There's a line between posting enough pertinent info to get useful answers and posting so much info that you put yourself in danger from cops or other kinds of crooks.

MMMA has lost entire years(2 maybe) of posts already. What happened to the late 2008 posts, entire 2009 posts and a lot of  2010 posts?

There was a lot of GREAT stuff in those that is now lost(not due to anyone currently running the 3MA).

Keep all posts.

Moderate to minimums.

....and keep a serious eye on that phaqu2 guy.  :butt2:

Edit add on-  Keep all posts except obvious spam... -)

by off topic i mean like music posts in patient info or mushroom hunting stuff in caregiver info?

i dunno, maybe instead we will post some thread urls and if you want you can tell us what to do with them.

i am lazy so cleaning up the site is not on my todo.

imi, not sure how to fix slow loading of the music thread. you can adjust the message limit per thread in you user control panel.

or make your flash plugin *click to play*, which speeds up things.

also recommend upgrading your web browser.

thanks for the opinions and feedback, i agree pretty much with everyone.

What is the motivation for spending time cleaning up old off topic threads? How do you decide which thread? If you will only be cleaning up a small percentage of the total old off-topic threads, why bother? Will you mainly target large threads first or just the ones you happen across?

Maybe giving us some examples would be a helpful.

Also, if a thread is off topic for a particular forum, why delete it rather than move it to its appropriate forum?

Well, don't just do busy work. Is this thread busy work?

What am I missing? I don't read every thread, nor every post, so I don't know why some folks are implying they don't like the way this site is moderated, other than the expected problems inherent in a moderated posting forum.

When you can, please point us to some "problem" threads or posts, as examples.

Maybe get together with whoever brought this subject to your attention and find out.

I met that Paque2too fornicator face to face. He's a stand-up guy. Not trying to advocate for dispensary interests or anything of the sort....just a patient and CG to his common- law wife trying his best to make the system work for himself and his gal and sharing his legal run-ins along the way.

As far as deleting threads. I say let them all go. We, as sick people sometimes get a bit pissy. It comes with the terroritory.

Heh "fornicator". While we speak about edited threads, I'd kinda like it if we can swear without the automatic editor taking over.

good point. put a spam button on each post for members to decide on the spot.  when X ticks are tallied, wipe the post.

add a dislike button to posting area too, like the big boys have done(facebook, etc) while improving matters?

why not add a product review area ??

we all know American idol would have been more popular if viewers could have vote contestants off of the show rather than voting to keep them on......

Main concern is old threads to information and news stories that are dead links now, which could be replaced with archived versions. You can appreciate I'm sure that if the entire purpose of a thread is to discuss a news story link that points to a non-existent page, the value of the thread is limited. It also affects search engine rankings.

another fine point. don't know how this can be done with ease, except with the help of all of us. maybe a "dead linky" button on each post for us to press when we see them.

spam button

dead link button

dislike button

you could button up this whole job !!

Quoting an excerpt from the linked material:

Creating a post (or starting a thread) with only a link without including an excerpt, or reason to follow the link, is bad form. And you can't violate copyrights by including the entire text here. Someone that doesn't like this site might try to get the forum in trouble with the copyright holder. Has this site ever gotten cease and desist orders for possible copyright infringement?

New buttons and new functionality:

Remember that changing the forum software is harder than cleaning up some old posts and stuff.

Old links going bad:

If a link goes bad, is there a way the "wayback machine's"  internet archive can help?

https://archive.org/web

Hmm, looks like you can explicitly request a page be saved there (although most pages are already archived).

Is "spam" limited to :

1. useless, repetitive, identical or irrelevant posts

2. adverts for business ventures?

Sometimes I make a "troll post" that is meant to be humorous, while others may consider it "spam" or "off topic" (or even "a big lie").

Also, off-topic posts should not be called "spam", unless you just want one term for everything you dislike.

Spam is when I come in and see 10 posts on ten threads for the same scam.

It has been said business spam is discouraged in the forum.

Otherwise who cares?

Dead links deserve to die. Why fret?

If posts are off topic to a category, move em to the category they belong. That is what moderators are supposed to do; move my threads to the right category. I just post everything in patient issues expecting the mods to do the work for me!  :butt2:

Oh. sorry.

It wasn't meant to be taken seriously.  I was just messin with him for being so touchy.  For someone as rude and crude as phaq(just look at his name) to be miffed about other peoples rude and crude, is definitely something I find amusing.

I don't find anyone regularly posting nowadays as bothersome in the least bit.

I actually find this forum to be insanely bland and am always amazed when people take such offense to these very bland postings and go running home like the last little piggy because someone said something they didn't totally agree with.  Read it, or don't; comment or don't; and move on.
