House medical marijuana bills unreasonable, expensive

 

In September, I attended my first House Judiciary hearing. I was not impressed.

 

The hearing focus was marijuana-related House Bills 4209, 4210, and 4827. The conservative majority did not take public comment from anyone in the packed room before voting. They ignored Rep. Jeff Irwin’s attempt to amend the bills to align them with the intent of the 2008 Michigan Medical Marijuana Act.

 

Callous ultra-conservative congressmen colluding with the pharmaceutical industry are creating a “gotcha” system to continue jailing Michigan citizens for medical marijuana.

 

House Bill 4209 adds an 8 percent tax to medical marijuana, making it the only prescribed medication subject to tax. It also adds five more license types and expensive yearly CPA-prepared financials. Transporters also must use “secure transport vehicles.”

 

I support the legalization of marijuana as the best option to protect and support Michigan patients and citizens against unreasonable bills like these.
