Anyone Using Pee For Fertilizer?

Urine is a great fertilizer (diluted for plant application, straight for compost making) and most everyone just flushes it down the toilet!

 

Anyone here that will admit to using this free and plentiful source of nitrogen?

while I agree with the value of this natural fertilizer......just yuck in the medical garden supplying patients imo. splashing, cleanliness, and not to mention the (rx?)diet and health of the pee'er or asparagus night . No judgments of course, I fully accept the ideals of humanure .   I've smelled enough public restrooms to know how that soil would smell in the short time in a pot.

I would prefer that nobody's ppenis or anything that comes out of it comes near the grow room or my flowered medicine. The cost of natural fertilizer is negligible enough to avoid the practice in my garden. but hey, if I was broke, growing outside,  and growing for myself......why not !  I think picbook mentioned doing this, or knowing of someone who did it exclusively outdoors. I forget the results, but I suspect they were fine.

Funny. Yet many growers use animal poop to grow meds. It's bat shyt crazy.

People are weird. They have no problems using fertilizer made from animal or fish poop. Or eating hot dogs or spam. But sterile urine makes 'em squeamish!

i only do it in my compost bin. just to tinkle off the neighbors however, i settle on an errant hair or what-have-ye. no pee for me,,,hehe

Yeah, thanks for mentioning this as I neglected to do so. That is indeed an important consideration especially if one is taking oral contraceptives. Hormones, antibiotics and other medications have been found in the water supply for at least 20 years. Most of this is from folks flushing drugs down the toilet, but there are also contributions from urine & feces. (Throw your unwanted drugs in the garbage, folks!)

do you have any research on plants, do they uptake medications from urine?

 

i mean, what you are saying is that you could grow plants that have xanax in them. and afaik, this is impossible.

A friend of mine that passed away liked to tell a story about how he grew marijuana in a light fixture in his jail cell using pee as nutes.

Urine is sterile.  I've used it in a pinch.

i mix one part urine to 9 parts water, a recipe from 1970s university studies undertaken cause so much of the rice imported from the third world is fertilized by human feces (see night soil) and human urine put raw into rice paddies, It also found the parts per million of oral contraceptives or whatever drugs a person takes to not show in enuf ppm to be significant to a plant.

 

conclusions: human waste is safe, and effective, fertilizer.

 

but found pet doo doo (cat and dog) to be unsafe and ineffective as ferts.

Of course human poo, like other animal feces, need to be properly processed to eliminate pathogens. Just wanted to clear that up for any casual onlooker who thought "cool, I'll just poop on my plants!" 

 

But cat poo, man stay far away from THAT sh-t (c'mon, we're all grownups here, why does the forum prohibit the usage of the word?), heavy duty brain re-wiring! Toxoplasma in mice makes them attracted to cat pee and more likely to get eaten. May even play a role in cat hoarder syndrome.

I did a free hill billy grow in my yard in like 09, I used half of a 55 gallon drum, drilled holes in the bottom, I got dirt from my nieghbors garden.  my neighbor also let me put some seeds in his vegtable garden, I would only use my morning pee in my hillbilly grow and not in his garden, once a week I put a gallong of water in the 55 gal drum and a little in the garden, the rest of the week I used pee!

 

My hill bill grow did better than my garden grow, I put to many seeds in my 55 gal, I have to beleive every one of them popped, no germanation, i just put them in the soil and within 5 days all in the drum had popped, I had to make a choice on which to yank, I probably had 50 bag seeds pop, a friend taught me a way to tell if the are male or female as soon as they pop! (im not realy sure if it works) I did wind up with 13 females in the drum though!!!!

 

Yea when I would tell people about it, all I got was that is gross lol!

 

I do have some pics some where, I had a thread in here that had the pic's also, it was called free hill billy grow, I put 4 post's around the drum, I ran fencing around and over the posts, put a small lock on it and called it good!

 

That summer we got enough dew every morning that I only had to give them 1 gallon of water with some nitrogen in it, I bought it from wall mart for 3 bucks, it was the only one they had that wasnt miracle grow!

 

I would have gotten a good crop but my idiot theiving, lying step son started to pick them way before they were even grown enough to even use, I was camping most of the summer and came home several times a week to check on them and noticed branches clipped off and one missing from the garden next door, ,,,, so I yanked them all so the lil phaq couldnt rip me off any longer!

 

morral of the story the lil phaq got phaq pee pee weed bawahahahahahaha!

The main issue with using urine as fertilizer would be using a large enough container indoors to ensure that the nitrogen cycle can complete properly. Anybody trying would probably want to start by upping the container size, probably double, and making sure that the urine is diluted to reach a standard PPM each time. Watching the plants for toxicity and alternating with plain water is important.

 

Outdoors, it will just work.

yeah, i should have mentioned that. bigger pots = bigger plants (with soil anyway).

its why you cant tinkle thc into the soil to make your plants uptake thc to get more thc. it dont work!!!

So plants can absorb nutrients and other stuff during feedings but tainted urine doesnt make its way into the plant yeah that makes sense and lighten up on your tone we are having  a normal conversation bro no need to be rude talking down to me .

i dont have the research showing either way.

 

plants uptake some things, we've learned mj uptakes lead and other heavy metals from the testing.

 

there are easy experiments to show you can get plants to uptake food coloring and sugars.

 

i'm guessing something to do with the molecules of the pharma drugs and how plant roots uptake things , have to be bioavailable etc.
