I guess greg schmid has been at this for a few years. article from 2000.

"Not many people have the experience I do to conduct this initiative campaign," admits Schmid, "and I don’t care if it passes or not. I’ll take a no vote. I just want to see if it’s the people or politicians who want marijuana to be illegal, because I’m sick of seeing people’s driver’s licenses being taken and their property seized. It’s not funny for people who lose their jobs because of drug testing, or worse yet, this chilling effect that causes people to think they can’t advance in life because they’re going to be drug tested just because they smoke pot or drink alcohol. You know there was a time in England when whiskey was legal and gin wasn’t, so go figure. I’m not saying it’s good or bad, but I’m not going to pretend for the government’s sake that it’s bad."

this guy knows whats up.

No doubt about that. We had him for a guest speaker at our CC in '09. He's like the godfather of medical cannabis in Michigan. He practically predicted everything that has happened since. He's the Real Deal.

I'm kinduv surprised that I've never seen anyone on this website talk about Mr. Schmid's effort to legalize 15 years ago. I collected signatures back then. Does anyone remember PRA (personal responsibility amendment) 2000?

I don't know how many signatures were collected for PRA 2000. I do remember talking to a shirt-tail relative back then who was a PA assistant and predicted that MJ would be legal within 10 years. Also, back then, my main connection was a guy who worked at a GM plant. I enlisted him to collect signatures, and he really came through - with about 300 signatures from his coworkers. I recall him telling me how easy it was to collect signatures from people who did back-breaking and mind-numbing work on the assembly line.

As did I.  We also registered voters along with collecting signatures at various events.

We were very well received at 'biker' events :)

Greg was once President of MI NORML and was instrumental in getting the MMMA on the ballot and passed in '08. He takes a libertarian view of the issue, and does not want to see government intrusion on the right to grow it ourselves. It is a matter of personal freedom, as he explained to me. I wonder how he intends to see this passed.
