What Is Causing This?!?

T-pain, I'm using FF Happy Frog, and I've only been giving them 1/4 strength nuts every 3 waterings, I thought it would be better to use less and then use more if I needed.

Pha, it isn't the dreaded "M" word!!! I've been very meticulous in checking for them, and preventing them, with a pretty much sealed room, and no shoes/clothes that have been outside are allowed past the outer door of the GR.

In the beginning the bottom leaves often yellow and fall off, i wouldnt be concerned till there around six inches tall, its normal for me to see the first leaves yellow, its if it continues past a few inches tall.. however check the moisture of the soil.. give them a chance to grow a bit more. .. takes a bit for them to grab and run ... JMHO

IF it was me i would feed every other watering.

Ok kool, thanks Mal & Willy & Bill! I'll move up that PH and I won't water again till there good and light.

Hey Willy, you think feeding every other watering won't overdo it when there already sitting in the happy frog? They get over nuted? Or get nute-lock?

I wouldn't think so at 1/4 strength.. keep an eye on it of course.. This chart explains what is going on with nutrient uptake at ph levels and lockouts ..

If you are growing in soil, water ph at 5.9- 6.0 is too acidic. The soil itself(peat)  is very acidic and releases acidity as it breaks down.  I would suggest going up to 6.5.

Not sure if that is the problem, but just a tidbit.

im going to agree with the PH issue. the other signs that point to PH are the whorl that the leaves have, and the 3 prong leaves. find the right PH range first, then address the other issues systematically

I think it's not enough potassium.  I asked about humidity because plants tend to go thru potassium like mad when teh humidity drops.  30% humidity is pretty low.  pH of 6 shouldn't be bad at all for soil.  I had put in 6.5 and it came out 5 before with slight problems.  I'd add some kelp or some protekt to the fertilizing mix. It'll also raise the ph of the watering mixture if you use protekt so it will fix lo ph too.  It should help with either situation.

I've had problems using happy frog with magnesium and with potassium deficiency in the winter.  Generally mg will take from the middle leaves to move it up to new growth whereas potassium will be taken from the bottom of the plant for new growth but both look similar as to how the leaves die.  Potassium makes them look like they've rotted and dried immediately.

On a personal note I've ceased using ALL Happy Frog products, they seem to have a real problem with keeping Gnats, Thrips, and other fun critters out of their soils.

Could be TMV spread by buggy bites? That has made an appearance this year for some of the growers I know who were also using the HF soils. (Tobacco Mosaic)

curious if it has instructions on the bag?

or if people should be using 'seedling mix' version of ff / hf?

looking at the ingredients of ff hf "potting mix" , it looks pretty hot for seedlings.

bat guano? i wouldnt put that on seedlings.

I'll be the first to admit I used the wrong thing for the small plants, it was what I had and didn't think twice about it. I will be using a different brand when i transplant them next. I was planning on using Promix HP.
