Of 3,858 felony sentences for various marijuana

offenses in 2007, almost 60 percent were probation or a combination of jail and

probation, while almost 20 percent were jail or a combination of jail and fine, and nearly

10 percent were prison sentences. Fifteen percent of the sentences were some other

sanction, such as a delayed or suspended sentence or a sentence under the Holmes

Youthful Trainee Act (table 1).
