Sean Penn claims El Chapo interview 'humiliated' Mexico so authorities made him a target for cartels

Secret meeting: Sean Penn with Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman before his recapture

Hollywood actor Sean Penn has accused the Mexican government of releasing details of his secret meeting with the world’s biggest drug lord so cartels go after him.

In an interview with America’s 60 Minutes television programme, the Oscar winner went on to defend his interview with Joaquin " El Chapo " Guzman.

In October he had secretly travelled to meet the head of the Sinaloa cartel in his jungle hideout after months earlier escaping through a mile long tunnel from his maximum security prison cell.

Following Guzman’s capture last week during a deadly gunfight with special forces, the country’s Attorney General said it was Penn’s meeting that led them to the fugitive .

However the actor refuted the claim.

He said: "There is this myth about the visit that we made, my colleagues and I with El Chapo, that it was, as the Attorney General of Mexico is quoted, 'essential' to his capture’.

"We had met with him many weeks earlier on October 2nd, in a place nowhere near where he was captured."

after caught I wondered about this. I found Sean has done several of these types of jobs and is very involved in those parts of the world building schools and stuff.  I'm betting he knew nothing about the coming bust
