Bill Maher Rant, Lights Up On The Show

Recommended Posts

tried to deny it. With Mike tried to deny it. With Mike in the studio, tonight was the perfect time for Maher to release a seven-minute tirade against those who stand in the way of country-wide legalized marijuana.

First, he clapped back at President Barack Obama‘s tepid comments that the “bad habit” is no worse than alcohol, saying “It’s not a bad habit, it’s a fantastic habit.”

The, he got serious:

Somehow, this is the year that everything from socialism to mass deportation is on the table and voters love the authentic guys who speak their minds, but when it comes time for Congress to consider common-sense pot legislation, it’s like smoking a joint with
Woody Harrelson
; they just won’t pass it!

He then went on to compare and contrast the legalization of marijuana with gay marriage, which he has done before. He hypothesized that legalization of weed is taking so long because, unlike with same-sex marriage, DEA agents, police officers, and prisons stand to lose a whole lot of money if the War on Drugs is called off. So too would pharmaceutical companies and breweries, along with the stores that carry their products.

He attacked states that are taking away rights and then, he went out in a blaze of glory: The medical marijuana card-carrying user just lit up a joint.

He did sum it up well though.  Dems aren't for states rights, R's keep chipping away at womens, LGBT, minority, etc, rights while the dems regulate rights, either of which never getting their "right" off the table.  It's a game and it's designed well to make everyone fight for the rights everyone should see as rights.  But hey, reproductive rights aren't equal to defending yourself or marrying someone or growing your own meds, or the gov't taking your land or anything you own without compensation(or even having the right to take in teh first place), victimless crimes, etc.etc.etc.

"remove federal prohibition on marijuana" is not legalization, its not even 100% decrim (i'd call it 99% decrim), as sanders' bill lays out it would be illegal to transport weed across state lines assuming his bill passed.

What else can one guy do? WTF do you want him to do? Promise to do something he can't do just to make you feel all warm and fuzzy? That's not his style. He's real you see. Not a political reality show.

I need to see it in writing.  These politicians say things in certain arenas that they wouldn't repeat in others.  In the presidential debate Bernie said you have to get rural and urban America together to make any gun law changes and tehn he sent an email weeks later to my inbox saying he wanted an assault rifle ban, better background checks and about 5 other things he wanted.  The D party will change him like it already is.

It will inevitably be a states right to regulate.

It is up to us to make sure those regulations are the will of the people and not a carve out for a corrupt few.

The transport across state lines thing has some merit

I could live with that.
