Inserting Screen For A New Glass Pipe

Recommended Posts

Many don't use a screen in this type of bowl but I do.  If you've ever tried to put a pipe screen in your new glass pipe, you may have found it tough to get it to stay in place.  The new pipe is too clean and the screen usually falls right out.  Instead of using the typical method of using a screen try this.

Roll the screen into a small tube with a diameter about the size of the hole in the bottom of the pipe bowl.  Now, drop the tube into the hole, forming a smokestack type look.  Pack your meds around the smokestack.

I'm gonna do this RIGHT NOW.

(I did do it right now but forgot to hit post...)

Two hits later.

Nah, sorry, don't like this technique.

1) hard to fill without getting herb in the "smokestack"

2) smaller diameter created results in less air flow (problem compounded when 1 above occurs)

thanks, I discovered this funnel screen technique only a few weeks ago. It works for me. I almost gave up on my favorite chunky. I can slam that pipe down on the wood floor without a fear, followed by the lighter most often. Glass star screens are cool but these glass blowers could think this one through easily I think, and figure it all out for us. like melt a permanent glass star in the hole or sumpin

thanks anyways for sharing this here.

I forgot about this post but it came up with a recent search I did.  You didn't like this idea?  Really?   Inconceivable!!   lol   Maybe it was my description.

The smokestack doesn't need to be open on the top, if that is causing problems.  Just pinch the top together.  You really want the airflow coming in the sides of the smokestack anyway.  This will let your bowl burn more completely and you won't get any herb in your stack.

I tried it and really dig it.  I use the smallest screens available and think I will pick up the next size larger for a little taller 'smokestack'.

I do not pack my bowl full, I just drop in enough for a nice clean hit then dump the ash.

After a couple hits the smokestack stays in place and it is much easier to remove for cleaning than the flat screen.

Thanks for the awesome tip @ washtenaut :bong7bp:

I'll give it another try. A loose screen in the bowl is indeed frustrating when it needs to be emptied & refilled.

@zachw, I found it much easier as the tension in the smokestack keeps it in place soooo much better than the flat screen.

I did pinch the top of the smokestack together for the win :D

As many of us know already, that flat screen is not going to stay in a clean bowl :)

be sure to "pre burn" your screens, especially smoke shop packs. they are packed with mystery oil to prevent corrosion. a torch lighter is best, with hemostats/clip to hold the screen while torching it red before use.  notice the smoke rising from a brand new screen..........yummy.

not all screen brands do this, but those china ones will actually melt, like the china metal of tin soldiers and hot wheels cars.  can anyone say lead, zinc, tin.......

tell them glass pipe makers to quit making them look like dildoes, wtf?  why do all glass bowls look like my pecker?

If that is the only way they can blow it (pun intended) than maybe they should just stick the the real thing and quit blowing glass!

Peace

I like to have a bowl, I have an old fashion mettle one, it has two chambers to stash some bud in, it has a lid on it so I can carry it around and take a hit when I want to, (i dont carry it any longer)  I would much rather smoke joints, that way I can taiste the fresh weed and not all of the resins in the pipe, I never clean my pipes, I poke a hole thru the resin to keep it working and when it becomes to difficult I stash the pipe in a can with all of the other dead pipes loaded with resin!  I have been using medibles and rarely even smoke any longer, the only time I smoke is when im with other pt's who are smoking, other wise I only take a few hits at nite to help me sleep!

Peace
