The same thing that has happened to them everywhere - they became rigid ideologues. Unfortunately, the ideas to which they have become slaves are being revealed as lies.

 

Only two alternatives for them. Either they own up to the fact that they have been living a lie, or they dig their heels in and double down on the lies. I expect that they will do the latter.
