Why Are Hops Acceptable And Cannabis Is The Devil?

told family i was going to grow some hops this year, they said oh ok, nice.

family found out i was growing cannabis a couple years ago and they freaked.

why are hops acceptable and cannabis isnt?

its the same plant family.

yet alcohol kills hundreds of thousands each year in the world, while cannabis kills zero.

hops dont produce seeds.  You wont find any seeds available anywhere.  I've grown hops for 8 years now.

you know theres male vines and female vines right (well bines.). just like the cannabis plant right?

yeah if you grow female clones you never get seeds. but seeds do exist ! not for named varieties because the hops people arent as advanced as the cannabis farmers. more people grow weed than hops. the only people growing hops are growing it for beer, not for the plant , and the roots are pretty easy to propagate, unlike the seeds apparently.

and the seeds look like cannabis seeds.

the description of the hops plant seems to imply that there are no animals that eat the seeds from the hops. but i've heard deer chomp on the hops (or the bines).

maybe there was a species of animal that used to eat the seeds from this plant. maybe that species is long gone now? :(

I appreciate you guys trying to learn me on the subject, but I'm good. Nothing against rhizomes. I have four in my patch that were from rhizome. Some of the crowns and plants that I've added are established first season. I brewed with hops from a field grade plant in year one. Not getting that with a rhizome. Hops tested and sold to commercial hops farms nationwide...yup, I'm on that.

Many of those michigan only beers you've enjoyed were done with hops that came from great lakes. Cheers.

humulus japonicus (japanese hops) are an annual plant vs the humulus lupulus (common hop) which is a perennial.

japanese hops seem to be invasive and grow wild here in michigan. wonder how those seeds are.

I have a LOAD of homebrew equipment that I cannot use any more. There is a fifteen gallon mash tun with stainless ball valve and stainless false bottom, copper wort chiller, a fifteen gallon boil pot, a fifteen, a five, and a three gallon glass carboy, ale buckets, a mounted table top capper, swing tops, champaign bottles, Two 5 gallon soda kegs with 5 lb CO2 tank, regulator, and lines, a propane burner, and just about every utensil and device necessary to brew. If interested, let me know.
